Rags to Rags is an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek collection of short stories about being the poorest kid in the room. It hails from the mind of Ellie Guzman, whose unconventional approach to writing humorous essays about uncomfortable topics on her blog has led to publication worldwide and an international following. Throughout her life, Guzman has somehow always ended up in wealthy spaces, from stumbling into the child acting industry, to scraping by on financial aid at a prestigious private university, to breaking into an animation studio and gradually working her way up the writing ladder. But in her personal life, she was always broke, growing up cramped in a one-bedroom apartment with a family of four and joining scientific studies to make a quick buck. Her short stories embrace the bizarreness of those situations as well as the realities of what being "poor" means, all through a hilarious and quirky lens. "Oh My God, Are You Bryan Cranston?" tells the story of the time Guzman mistakenly attended a screening with the cast of Argo, and how she attacked the hors d'oeuvres to cope with the shame of being underdressed in front of her heroes. "You Better Work" describes the unusual lengths she went through to survive college, like getting her blood drawn for cash or pretending to be a freshman for a free sandwich. "The New Normal" describes how exactly she made the leap from a career in medicine to one in television, and "Whitewashed" explores an identity crisis as a first-generation Latina coming to terms with who she is. It's a variety of topics infused with Guzman's unique voice, funny but sincere, conversational yet biting. It doesn't take itself too seriously; after all, it's not a story of rags to riches. It's a story of rags to rags.

Most people anticipate a success story that describes a character's (real life or fictional) triumph from rags to riches. What if we turn the tables and read about an already "lucky" character who was practically born with a silver spoon in her mouth, looks down upon others who have less than her or who don't meet her standards, feels entitled to get what she desires from others, and gets away with countless bullying antics at school since her father knows what strings to pull to get her out of trouble? Meet Serendipity (a.k.a. Serene), who needs to be humbled in her world of entitlement to fill the endless void she is trying to fill. How will she turn from her vacant and selfish ways if she doesn't have God in her life? Does she need to lose everything and go from riches to rags to find her purpose in the life that God intended for her?

The Rags written by Hans Christian Andersen and has been published by Lindhardt og Ringhof this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-18 with Fiction categories.

In front of a factory were piles and piles of rags and, among these rags, a Danish rag and a Norwegian rag found themselves side-by-side. They each extolled their country and their language while criticising the country and language of the other... Maybe they would have acted differently if they had known the destiny that awaited them! Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a Danish author, poet and artist. Celebrated for children’s literature, his most cherished fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Little Match Girl". His books have been translated into every living language, and today there is no child or adult that has not met Andersen's whimsical characters. His fairy tales have been adapted to stage and screen countless times, most notably by Disney with the animated films "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and "Frozen", which is loosely based on "The Snow Queen", in 2013. Thanks to Andersen's contribution to children's literature, his birth date, April 2, is celebrated as International Children's Book Day.

From Rags To Ricky written by Sid Owen and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-05 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In this entertaining and poignant autobiography, EastEnders star Sid Owen chronicles a life filled with incredible highs and devastating lows, with his trademark humour and charm. Sid Owen is best known for playing the hapless but loveable EastEnders character Ricky Butcher, one of Britain’s most enduring soap icons. What people don’t know is that Sid’s early life saw more drama than anything his character endured. His father was an armed robber who was sent to prison when Sid was very young. Sid went out 'on the rob' from an early age, breaking into shops and seeing it as a big adventure. Sid lived happily with his mum and siblings on a sprawling north London council estate until he was seven, when his mum died and the brothers were split up. Feeling confused, unloved and unhappy, Sid was heading towards a life of crime. Acting offered an escape from his troubled home life and his teen years played out between extremes – at thirteen he was working with Al Pacino and Donald Sutherland on the movie Revolution; at sixteen he was living in an Islington squat with his brothers when his work brought him to the attention of the EastEnders producers. From Rags to Ricky is Sid’s moving, unforgettable account of his north London childhood during the late 1970s and 80s. His natural storytelling skills, authentic voice, ear for dialogue and sharp eye for detail transform this story of loss and deprivation into a timeless tale of one individual’s struggle to defy the hand fate dealt him and come out winning.

Well, it took along time to write, I hope you think its worth it. Whats it about? A good question, I wish I knew. You could read it to find out. Basically its about my career in show business as a thespian. Well, they cant touch you for it. I come from a working class family who had no roots in show business. My interest began at an early age. My father often took me to our local theatre where we would sit in the Gallery to see the shows. I just loved it and wanted to be part of it. But how to do it, that was the question. When at first you dont succeed, pack it in. Not me, I ignored that completely. I was given a book one Christmas on HOW TO BECOME A COMEDIAN. Ive been trying ever since. After that, I went into a local Concert Party and at last I had my feet on the ladder of success but I had a long way to go before I turned professional. I was In the RA.F. 1951/53 doing my National Service where I did shows with professional entertainer Johnny Leeson and Guest Artist, Dennis Spicer, (a ventriloquist) and Terry Seabrooke (A Comedy Magician) who became a lifelong friend. Can you believe it, I was defending my Country. God knows what would have happened if we had been at war. We would have thrown jokes at the enemy, not bombs. After leaving the R.A.F. in July 1953, I joined another Concert Party called, The Barnstormers. I was also doing The Working Mens Clubs, for the enormous fee, when I say enormous, I was on 5 per night and for that, I did 4 spots. Well, you have to start somewhere. In August 1960 I married my wife Jan. Weve now been married for over 50 years. Not a bad run for show business. Is it? In 1963 I turned professional when I was offered my first summer season on the Isle of Wight. In 1965 I did my first Pantomime Aladdin at my Local Rep. This was the start of many years doing weekly Repertory Theatre up and down the country, and in 1971, I was offered a National Tour appearing in Agatha Christies FIDDLERS FIVE. I was busy in the 1970s doing summer seasons and pantomimes in England, Scotland, and Wales In the 1980s and 90s I moved into television and Commercials. I wrote a musical in the 1990s called, The FLANAGAN & ALLEN Story in which I played my Idol BUD FLANAGAN, on and off for the next 12 years, Finally, it was time for me to hang up my fur coat and straw boater. I did achieve my ambition and became professional. I also met and worked with many stars.
