The Collapse Of Middle East Peace written by Dennis J. Deeb II and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with History categories.

In this fast-paced, well-researched work, author Dennis "D.J." Deeb objectively traces the rise and fall of the Oslo Peace Accords between the Israelis and the Palestinians. What went wrong with peace? This work analyzes Israeli leader Ariel Sharon's statements and past record as a military and government leader with regards to the Peace Process. Deeb also discusses the corruption within the Palestinian Authority that has hindered the peace process, including the mismanagement of Palestinian Authority President Yasir Arafat. The author examines and supports what has become known as "The Mitchell Report," released in the spring 2001, in offering a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. He also considers and evaluates the recent Road Map To Peace proposal offered by President George W. Bush in the spring of 2003. Since 1993, both Israeli and Palestinian leaders have failed to implement and have violated provisions of the Oslo Accords. As the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who gave his life in the name of peace, and to whom this writing is dedicated, articulated so clearly during the signing of the Oslo Accords, "enough blood and tears."Finally, Deeb argues that the intent behind the Oslo Accords encompass the link between the end of war and the era of peace, that the Israelis and Palestinians should both return to the table for negotiations based upon the recommendations of "The Mitchell Report" and the Quartet Road Map To Peace to negotiate a final and lasting settlement rooted in the Oslo Peace Accords.

Violence Nonviolence And The Palestinian National Movement written by Wendy Pearlman and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10-24 with Political Science categories.

Why do some national movements use violent protest and others nonviolent protest? Wendy Pearlman shows that much of the answer lies inside movements themselves. Nonviolent protest requires coordination and restraint, which only a cohesive movement can provide. When, by contrast, a movement is fragmented, factional competition generates new incentives for violence and authority structures are too weak to constrain escalation. Pearlman reveals these patterns across one hundred years in the Palestinian national movement, with comparisons to South Africa and Northern Ireland. To those who ask why there is no Palestinian Gandhi, Pearlman demonstrates that nonviolence is not simply a matter of leadership. Nor is violence attributable only to religion, emotions or stark instrumentality. Instead, a movement's organizational structure mediates the strategies that it employs. By taking readers on a journey from civil disobedience to suicide bombings, this book offers fresh insight into the dynamics of conflict and mobilization.

* This book offers a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the concept of sovereignty. * This book outlines the origins, context and evolution of the concept of sovereignty as an essential attribute of the modern territorial State since the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. * The book identifies two competing traditions of the concept of sovereignty; the tradition inaugurated by Jean Bodin in 1576 in his work "The Six Books of the Commonwealth" and another that started with Johannes Althusius in 1603, considered the 'father' of federal theory, in his less known work "Politica". * In order to understand the concept of sovereignty, it is necessary to understand the 'constitutional rules' of each international system and the fact that the States are the primary polities in the international arena. * The rise of International Organizations and the increasing 'institutionalization' of the international system challenges this state-centric world, considering their exercise of sovereign powers. * Following authors such as Daniel Elazar, the book discusses the importance of federalism as political theory, which offers a different understanding of the concept of sovereignty. * The book discusses the European Union as a paradigmatic case of a 'postmodern confederation', which challenges the notion of sovereignty as an absolute and exclusive statehood attribute. * Furthermore, the reconceptualization of sovereignty in International Law should consider the rise of regional and functional legal orders, the different understandings of sovereignty offered by the federalist tradition and the processes of 'deterritorialization' and disaggregation of authority. * The book concludes with the idea that concept of sovereignty in International Law should be seen as a flexible concept which is not an exclusive attribute of the modern territorial state. This book is required reading for all interested in the history and the evolution of the concept of sovereignty.

In the 1950s C. W. Snedden, owner of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, used his newspaper to crusade for statehood and the development of Alaska and its resources, particularly North Slope oil and gas. As a confidant of Interior Secretary Fred A. Seaton, Snedden had unrivaled access to the top ranks of the Eisenhower Administration and he employed his connections to advance the cause of Alaska statehood. Snedden orchestrated a national press campaign to push through the statehood legislation and opened much of the North Slope for oil development, which would play such a crucial role in financing the young state. Fighting for the Forty-Ninth is the story of how an independent newspaper publisher played a pivotal role in the making of modern Alaska.
