Verona, seconda metà del secolo scorso. Angelo Spini, erede di generazioni e generazioni di contadini, si affranca dal suo passato studiando e inventandosi un lavoro: quello appunto di inventore, di idee, progetti, marchi, slogan. Ben presto però si accorge che il suo bisogno di rivalsa sociale lo rende schiavo del potere, proprio di quel potere da cui avrebbe voluto liberare se stesso e la sua storia. Si costruisce allora una villa in collina a forma di cubo, sull'orlo di un precipizio, dove trovare la pace fuggendo dal mondo. Come se fosse il lato oscuro e inconscio della stessa storia, Tzero squarcia il velo di realismo che nasconde altre, più intense verità. Qui Andreoli scardina le strutture del romanzo classico per lasciare spazio a voci che dialogano in libertà sul mondo, la sua origine, la sua fine. Sul filo del delirio seguiamo i passi di un monaco, alter ego di Angelo Spini, che a sua volta si rifugia in un cubo, chiudendosi a qualunque ingerenza esterna. Vittorino Andreoli, attraverso questi due percorsi paralleli, torna ancora una volta a offrire la sua interpretazione della condizione umana, intessuta di paura, di solitudine e follia.

Il romanzo distopico di Adriano Zanatta parla di un prossimo futuro che si è già insinuato fra noi.
