Explosion Hazards and Evaluation presents the principles and applications of explosion hazards evaluation. The text is organized into nine chapters. Chapters 1 and 2 discuss the energy release processes which generate accidental explosions, and the resulting development of pressure and shock waves in a surrounding atmosphere. The manner in which the "free-field" waves are modified in interacting with structures or other objects in their paths is discussed in Chapter 3. Structural response to blast loading and non-penetrating impact is covered in two chapters, with Chapter 4 including simplified analysis methods and Chapter 5 including numerical methods. Chapter 6 includes a rather comprehensive treatment of generation of fragments and missiles in explosions, and the flight and effects of impact of these objects. Chapter 7 considers thermal radiation of large chemical explosions. Explosions may or may not cause damage or casualty, and various damage criteria have been developed for structures, vehicles, and people. These criteria are presented in Chapter 8. General procedures for both the postmortem evaluation of accidental explosions and for design for blast and impact resistance are reviewed in Chapter 9. Engineers, scientists, and plant safety personnel will find the book very useful.

The security and economic stability of many nations and multinational oil companies are highly dependent on the safe and uninterrupted operation of their oil, gas and chemical facilities. One of the most critical impacts that can occur to these operations are fires and explosions from accidental or political incidents. This publication is intended as a general engineering handbook and reference guideline for those personnel involved with fire and explosion protection aspects of critical hydrocarbon facilities. Design guidelines and specifications of major, small and independent oil companies as well as information from engineering firms and published industry references have been reviewed to assist in its preparation. Some of the latest published practices and research into fire and explosions have also been mentioned.

Guidelines For Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Social Science categories.
This book/CD-ROM resource provides a complete overview of tools and techniques required to do a quantitative analysis of the risk associated with the immediate impact of accident events such as fires, explosions, and the release of acutely toxic material. Focus is on analysis of acute hazards rather than chronic health effects. Contains chapters on chemical process quantitative risk analysis (CPQRA) basics, consequences analysis, event operability, measurement and presentation of risk estimates, creation of a CPQRA data base, and application examples. Includes 10 reference appendices, conversion factors, and a glossary. This second edition (the first was published in 1989) provides more detail on selected techniques, updates models based on improvements in modeling technology, provides more worked examples, and provides spreadsheet implementation of consequence analysis examples on the accompanying CD-ROM. Guidelines For Safe Storage And Handling Of Reactive Materials written by CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.
With new and growing interest in dealing with the hazards of reactive chemicals, this book offers guidelines that can significantly reduce the risk or mitigate the severity of accidents associated with storing and handling reactive materials. Necessary elements of a reliable system to prevent equipment or human failures that might lead to a reactive chemical incident are sound and responsible management policies, together with a combination of superior siting, design, fabrication, erection, inspection, monitoring, maintenance, operations and maintenance of facilities. These Guidelines deal with all of these elements with emphasis on design considerations.

Evaluation Of Fire Safety written by D. Rasbash and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-04-21 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Fire safety is a major concern in many industries, particularly as there have been significant increases in recent years in the quantities of hazardous materials in process, storage or transport. Plants are becoming larger and are often situated in or close to densely populated areas, and the hazards are continually highlighted with incidents such as the fires and explosions at the Piper Alpha oil and gas platform, and the Enschede firework factory. As a result, greater attention than ever before is now being given to the evaluation and control of these hazards. In a comprehensive treatment of the subject unavailable elsewhere, this book describes in detail the applications of hazard and risk analysis to fire safety, going on to develop and apply quantification methods. It also gives an explanation in quantitative terms of improvements in fire safety in association with the costs that are expended in their achievement. Furthermore, a quantitative approach is applied to major fire and explosion disasters to demonstrate crucial faults and events. Featuring: Full international coverage and a review of several major fires and explosion disasters. Presentation of the properties and science of fire including the latest research. Detailed coverage of the performance of fire safety measures. This is an essential book for practitioners in fire safety engineering, loss prevention professionals, technical personnel in insurance companies as well as academics involved in fire science and postgraduate students. This book is also a useful reference for fire safety officers, building designers, engineers in the process industries, safety practitioners and risk assessment consultants.

Ageneralization and rationalization of the main safety design criteria and safety analysis methodologies developed in nuclear aerospace and chemical engineering is presnted in two comprehensive volumes. The concepts of risk, damage and probability of hazardous events are introduced. Risks connected with the use of main harmful substances are quantitatively identified. The methods employed for the safety analyses are described, together with the methodologies for seismic analyses and for Probabilistic Risk Assessment. The main criteria for protection of plants from internal and external events are introduced and described. In addition, the problem of emergency planning is considered. This book is particularly intended for engineers working in the nuclear field, in chemical industries, in industrial plants, in fuel storages and with high-risk substances, as well as for engineers operating in licensing organizations and for inspectors.
