Currently an estimated 17 million nuclear medicine procedures are performed each year in the US and constantly evolving, as new radiopharmaceuticals and imaging techniques are introduced for better diagnosis and treatment of human diseases. In keeping up with new developments, the Seventh Edition of Fundamentals of Nuclear Pharmacy chronicles the advancements in radiopharmaceuticals and their use in clinical applications. It discusses basic concepts such as the atom, radioactive decay, instrumentation and production of radionuclides, and explores the design, labeling, characteristics and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals. Radiation regulations and diagnostic and therapeutic applications of radiopharmaceuticals are detailed. Thoroughly updated, the Seventh Edition includes new topics such as alternative productions of 99Mo; production of 64Cu, 86Y, 89Zr, 177Lu, 223Ra; synthesis and clinical uses of new radiopharmaceuticals such as DaTscan, Xofigo, Amyvid, Neuraceq, Vizamyl, Axumin and 68Ga-DOTATATE; dosimetry of new radiopharmaceuticals; theranostic agents and translational medicine. It features numerous examples, diagrams, and images to further clarify the information and offers end- of-chapter questions to help readers assess their comprehension of the material. Recognized as a classic text on nuclear chemistry and pharmacy and acclaimed for its concise and easy-to-understand presentation, Fundamentals of Nuclear Pharmacy is an authoritative resource for nuclear medicine physicians, residents, students, and technologists.

A new edition of a book is warranted when the book is successful and there are many new developments in the related discipline. Both have occurred for this book during the past 7 years since its second edition. The growth and development in nuclear pharmacy and radiopharmaceutical chemistry along with the continued success of the book have convinced us to update the book; hence this third edition. This book is a ramification of my nuclear pharmacy courses offered to pharmacy students specializing in nuclear pharmacy, nuclear medicine resi dents, and nuclear medicine technology students. The book is written in an integrated form from the basic concept of atomic structure to the practical clinical uses of radiopharmaceuticals. It serves both as a textbook on nu clear pharmacy for pharmacy students and nuclear medicine technologists, and as a useful reference book for many professionals related to nuclear medicine, such as nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists. The book contains 12 chapters. Each chapter is written as comprehen sively as possible based on my personal experience and understanding. At the end of each chapter, a section of pertinent questions and problems and so me suggested reading materials are included. I have made justifiably many additions and deletions as weIl as some reorganization in this edition. Chapter 3 is entirely dedicated to instru ments for radiation detection and measurement, including brief description of gas detectors, gamma-detecting instruments, and tomographic scanners.

Since the third edition of The Fundamentals of Nuclear Pharmacy was pub lished in 1992, radiopharmaceutical chemistry and various aspects of nuclear medicine have experienced significant growth and development. The new information plus the appreciation of the book in the nuclear medicine community have prompted us to publish a new edition. As with the past editions, this fourth edition is primarily based on the contents of various courses given over several decades to nuclear pharmacy students, nuclear medicine and radiology residents, and nuclear medicine technology students. The book is written in chronological order from the basic atomic structure to the clinical uses of radiopharmaceuticals. It serves as a textbook on nuclear pharmacy for nuclear pharmacy and nuclear medi cine technology students as well as a reference book for many professionals interested in nuclear medicine, such as nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists. There are 15 chapters in the book. At the end of each chapter a set of pertinent questions and some suggested reading materials are included.

Radiation Safety In Nuclear Medicine written by Gopal B. Saha and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-16 with Medical categories.

This book is a collection of all pertinent information on radiation safety applicable in nuclear medicine and research using radioactive materials. Radiation exposure causes harm to humans and is strictly controlled by several regulatory authorities (NRC, FDA, EPA, DOT, etc). The practice of nuclear medicine involves the use of radioactive materials in patients and research, and is well regulated by these agencies. However, information on radiation safety practice in nuclear medicine and research areas is scattered throughout the literature and federal registers. For busy nuclear technologists and professionals, it is quite time consuming to look for and acquire specific information and instructions to follow in radiation-related occasions and incidents. This guide provides ready-made, handy information on radiation safety as required in the practice of nuclear medicine, presented in a concise form for easy understanding and quick reference related to a given situation and/or incident. This is an ideal reference for nuclear medicine physicians, nuclear medicine technologists, and researchers using radioactive materials.
