Vector calculus is an essential mathematical tool for performing mathematical analysis of physical and natural phenomena. It is employed in advanced applications in the field of engineering and computer simulations. This textbook covers the fundamental requirements of vector calculus in curricula for college students in mathematics and engineering programs. Chapters start from the basics of vector algebra, real valued functions, different forms of integrals, geometric algebra and the various theorems relevant to vector calculus and differential forms. Readers will find a concise and clear study of vector calculus, along with several examples, exercises, and a case study in each chapter. The solutions to the exercises are also included at the end of the book. This is an ideal book for students with a basic background in mathematics who wish to learn about advanced calculus as part of their college curriculum and equip themselves with the knowledge to apply theoretical concepts in practical situations.

Fundamentals Of Aeroelasticity written by Massimo Gennaretti and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-16 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This textbook provides the fundamentals of aeroelasticity, with particular attention to problems of interest to aeronautical engineering. The mathematical methods and tools applicable to the modern modeling of general aeroelastic problems are presented, discussed, and applied to fixed-wing aircraft configurations. It is composed of ten chapters divided into two parts: (I) aeroelastic modeling and analysis and (ii) mathematical tools. The six chapters that compose the first part start from the historical background of the discipline, then present the methods for coupling structural dynamics and unsteady aerodynamics for the aeroelastic modeling of the typical wing section, and then extend them to applications for twisted, tapered, swept finite-wing configurations. In this context, particular attention is paid to the presentation, interpretation, and discussion of the available unsteady sectional aerodynamic theories, both in the time and frequency domain, providing a broad scenario of the formulations that can be used for conventional and non-conventional aerodynamic/aeroelastic applications. For a modern view of aeroelasticity, a significant portion of the textbook deals with illustration and discussion of three-dimensional aerodynamic theories and computational methods for the determination of unsteady aerodynamic loads over lifting bodies in incompressible and compressible flows, as well as to the introduction and explanation of methodologies for the identification of reduced-order, state-space aerodynamic/aeroelastic operators suitable for stability (flutter) analysis and control purposes. A chapter is dedicated to the theories and approaches for aeroservoelastic modeling. In the second part of the textbook, additional chapters provide theoretical insights on topics that enrich the multidisciplinary knowledge related to widely applied methods and models for the analysis and solution of aeroelastic problems. The book serves as a reference tool for master's degree students in aeronautical/aerospace engineering, as well as researchers in the field of aeroelasticity.

Fundamentals of Interface and Colloid Science (FICS) is a standard reference work with an educational nature. The emphasis is on the basic facts and phenomena, which are systematically explained. FICS aims to make interface and colloid science accessible to a wide audience. Interface and colloid science is an important and fascinating field, but one that is often overlooked and undervalued. It has applications as diverse as agriculture, mineral dressing, oil recovery, industrial chemistry, medical science and biotechnology.A deductive approach is followed, with systems of growing complexity being treated as the book progresses. Volume I: Fundamentals (1st ed. 1991, 2nd ed. 1993) reviews the physical chemistry required to understand current literature on interfacial and colloid science. The volume starts from first principles and gradually increases the level. Volume II: Solid-Liquid Interfaces (1995) treats the subject systematically for the first time, including adsorption, double layers and electronkinetics. Volume III: Interface Tension covers interfacial tensions, monolayers and wetting. - Accessible to a wide audience without a detailed knowledge of physics and chemistry - Complex mathematical derivations are kept to a minimum - Treats interfacial and colloidal phenomena from first principles (advanced command of physics and chemistry not required) - Takes the reader from elementary to expert level - Acts as a reference and a textbook - Contains extensive and detailed cumulative subject index

There is a resurgence of applications in which the calculus of variations has direct relevance. In addition to application to solid mechanics and dynamics, it is now being applied in a variety of numerical methods, numerical grid generation, modern physics, various optimization settings and fluid dynamics. Many applications, such as nonlinear optimal control theory applied to continuous systems, have only recently become tractable computationally, with the advent of advanced algorithms and large computer systems. This book reflects the strong connection between calculus of variations and the applications for which variational methods form the fundamental foundation. The mathematical fundamentals of calculus of variations (at least those necessary to pursue applications) is rather compact and is contained in a single chapter of the book. The majority of the text consists of applications of variational calculus for a variety of fields.
