É inegável que o fenômeno religioso está presente em nosso cotidiano e que tanto a crença quanto a descrença religiosa são traços constitutivos da subjetividade. Contudo, seu estudo nem sempre encontrou acolhimento no meio acadêmico, chegando a ser rechaçado em particular na Psicologia. No Brasil, esse cenário tem se alterado de modo progressivo e consistente com o aumento contínuo de estudos na área da Psicologia da Religião. Apesar disso, ainda é comum a ausência do tema em grande parte de cursos de formação em Psicologia. Ou, por vezes, há abordagens enviesadas em prol de crenças pessoais de docentes sem o devido preparo para lidar com essa temática de modo a preservar os contornos da Psicologia como ciência. Este livro-texto pretende contribuir para ao menos diminuir essas lacunas. Escrito em linguagem acessível e dialógica, apresenta a Psicologia da Religião e seus fundamentos na confluência de aspectos individuais e psicossociais. Propõe atividades e serve à orientação de leituras tanto para estudantes quanto para docentes e interessados em geral que se disponham a conhecer de forma crítica e reflexiva esse campo de estudo e/ou realizar pesquisas nessa área.
