Páginas adelante, Arturo Ortega Morán, investigador lingüístico, toma la palabra y nos sorprende cuando nos cuenta que la palabra “cachirul” tiene origen en los pedazos de una vasija de cerámica (tepalcates, diríamos en México), que decir “de hueso colorado” tiene origen en el argot de los marineros, que “villamelones” son los imaginarios habitantes de un hipotético pueblo español, que al portero se le dice arquero no porque cuide el arco, sino porque… mejor leer el libro y sorprenderse con estas historias. Angel Robles, director de Radio Nuevo León, con fina prosa nos deleita con un ramillete de cuentos de futbol y Ricardo E. Villarreal pone un toque de humorismo con las frases hechas de los futbolistas al ser entrevistados y con los nombres poco afortunados de algunos de ellos. Marco Carrión, director de la revista cultural Forum, nos invita a viajar por la historia en busca del origen del futbol, mientras que Horacio Gómez Junco, ex vicerrector del Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, nos comparte sus vivencias cuando, a sus años, decidió introducirse en el corazón de las porras bravas de Monterrey. Las últimas páginas del libro, son territorio de Ricardo Espinosa, reconocido escritor y comentarista del lenguaje, que con fino humor nos presenta un monólogo, comenta los esperpentos de palabras futboleras que ha aprobado la Real Academia Española y nos habla de detalles relacionados con las barras bravas. En fin, esto es solo una leve idea de la aventura que espera al lector “En un Lugar de la Cancha…”.

Carmen Conde was born in 1907 in Cartagena (Murcia) where, with the exception of seven years in Melilla, she lived until 1936. At the end of the Spanish Civil War she moved to Madrid. For many years she was a professor of Spanish Poetry and Contemporary Spanish Novel at the Institute of European Studies (an affiliate of the University of Chicago) in Madrid. Also a professor of the University of Valencia. She has been awarded the following literary prizes: Elisenda Moncada, Internacional de Poesía; Premio Nacional de Poesía Española and the Premio de Novela Ateneo de Sevilla /1980). In 1978 was elected chair of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, the first woman ever inducted as a member. She gave her inaugural speech to the Academy on January 29, 1979. She died in Madrid in 1996. This book is a bilingual collections of poems of Carmen Conde in Spanish and translated to English. Editions and translation by Alexis Levitin and José R. De Armas with preface by Concha Zardoya and the Nobel Prize Winner, Vicente Aleixandre.
