This volume describes the nature, causes, and consequences of the diverse fluid movements that produce energy and mineral resources in sedimentary basins. The contained papers point to new capabilities in basin analysis methods and models. The processes that operate in the resource-producing thermo-chemical-structural reactors we call sedimentary basins are reviewed. Efficient ways to infer the tectonic history of basins are described. Impacts on hydrocarbon maturation and migration of glacial tilting, magmatic intrusion, salt migration, and fracturing are illustrated. The conditions under which subsurface flow will channel with distance traveled are identified. Seismic methods that can image and map subsurface permeability channels are described. The surface maturation, surface charge, and chemical reaction foundations of creep subsidence are set forth. Dynamic aspects of the hydrogen resource in basins are analyzed. There is much that is new that is presented in these papers with the intent of stimulating thinking and enthusiasm for the advances that will be made in future decades.

Advancement In Hydrological Modeling And Water Resources Management For Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Sdgs written by Vikram Kumar and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-24 with Science categories.
Availability of water for domestic and agricultural activities have become crucial due to rapid urbanization, growing population, and climate change. It is essential to develop effective strategies for managing water resources sustainably. These stressors complicate water resources management and pose a major bottleneck in achieving many United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The affected SDGs that relate to these issues are 1) SDG2: zero hunger, 2) SDG6: clean water and sanitation and 3) SDG 13: climate action. To achieve these SDGs, recent advancement in hydrological modelling and water resources management offer promising solutions, including access to safe and affordable drinking water, sanitation, and the protection and restoration of freshwater ecosystems. Thus, the collective goal of this Research Topic is to showcase the latest research and developments in the field of hydrological modelling as well as water resources monitoring and management. It will provide specific focus to how these advances can contribute to the achievement of the UN SDGs related to water resources. In particular, the individual goals of this Research Topic are to contribute knowledge towards: 1) Integrated water resource management. 2) Climate change adaptation. 3) Water quality management. 4) Data driven decision-making through hydrological modelling. 5) Advancement in technologies/tools for water resource management. 6) Engaging stakeholders to promote a holistic approach to water resources management.
Multi Scale Quantitative Diagenesis And Impacts On Heterogeneity Of Carbonate Reservoir Rocks

Multi Scale Quantitative Diagenesis And Impacts On Heterogeneity Of Carbonate Reservoir Rocks written by Fadi Henri Nader and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-30 with Science categories.
This book is both a review and a look to the future, highlighting challenges for better predicting quantitatively the impact of diagenesis on reservoir rocks. Classical diagenesis studies make use of a wide range of descriptive analytical techniques to explain specific, relatively time-framed fluid-rock interaction processes, and deduce their impacts on reservoir rocks. Future operational workflows will consist of constructing a conceptual diagenesis model, quantifying the related diagenetic phases, and modelling the diagenetic processes. Innovative approaches are emerging for applied quantitative diagenesis, providing numerical data that can be used by reservoir engineers as entry (input) data, and for validating results of numerical simulations. Geometry-based, geostatistical and geochemical modelling do not necessarily mimic natural processes, they rather provide reasonable solutions to specific problems.

Advanced Tools And Models To Improve River Basin Management In Europe In The Context Of Climate Change written by Michael Finkel and has been published by IWA Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-14 with Science categories.
Advanced Tools and Models to Improve River Basin Management in Europe in the Context of Climate Change - AquaTerra has developed from an integrated project of the 6th EU RTD Framework Programme that aims to provide the scientific basis for an improved river basin management through a better understanding of the river-sediment-soil-groundwater system as a whole, by integrating both natural and socio-economics aspects at different temporal and spatial scales. This book aims: To provide better understanding of the river-sediment-soil-groundwater system at various temporal and spatial scales To relate expected climate alterations to changes in deposition, mobility and distribution of pollutants in European river basins To provide the scientific basis for improved river basin management To introduce novel tools for water and soil quality monitoring To show the necessity of integrated modelling frameworks for impact evaluation of pollution as well as climate and land-use changes for definition of long-term management schemes The work illustrates the dynamic behavior of the pathway of pollutants in soils, groundwater, surface water and sediments. It highlights the fundamental importance of integrating knowledge from several combined disciplines on various environmental compartments in order to understand the large number of processes that govern pollutant input, transport and turnover. Results shows that a significant step forward has been made in the development new analytical methods and of process-based numerical models that are capable of making predictions of likely trends and environmental changes to be expected in the near or distant future at the basin-scale. These models can be used e.g. to generate hydrologic scenarios based on climate models and to simulate pollutant distribution and turnover rates from decades to millennia.
