The first Manifesto of Futurism was published on Le Figaro on February 20th, 1909. It was to become the first avantgarde movement in art, with the multiple aim of: changing the function of art within society, foster Italian culture beyond its provincial domains, and last, but not least extend language as free expression of a new and forthcoming society of technology. Art in life, was the deep aim of Marinetti’s poetry, which was then to expand well beyond Italian borders and well beyond artistic expression, becoming an attitude for entering the new society. The more society was developing social constraints, the more artistic expression would become free of canons to let imagination fluently overwhelm reality. The main topics proclaimed as crucial by Futurists are the contemporary most influencial topics for social stability: politics, communication and technology as well as the major movers of social change. What can we still grasp from the radical claims of avant-garde art?

This volume explores the process of transformation that is affecting art museums and their role in the modern world. It considers art museums from the perspectives of their social disposition, pedagogical practices, and the education they offer. The book embraces modern perspectives as a part of the international process where museums’ activities are transforming from the established traditional approach to more innovative methods, such as the digital environment, websites development, and social activities, among others. The volume is divided into three parts wherein museums are considered as agents of different spheres in society, pedagogy, and education. The transformation that modern museums have to accept is rooted in new challenges that society offers, and the book offers various examples that could be inspirational for developing new strategies for museums. It also features interviews with museum educators throughout the world in which they share their experience and vision on the questions presented here.

The Other Modernism written by Cinzia Sartini Blum and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-28 with Literary Criticism categories.

Drawing on recent feminist and psychoanalytic criticism, Cinzia Sartini Blum provides the first analysis of the rhetoric, politics, and psychology of gender in the avant-garde writings of the Italian Futurist F.T. Marinetti. Her book explores the relations between the seemingly unrelated goals of Italian Futurism: technical revolution, espousal of violence, avowed misogyny, and rejection of literary tradition. Blum argues for the centrality of the rhetoric of gender in Marinetti's work. She also investigates a diverse array of his futurist textual practices that range from formal experimentation with "words in freedom" to nationalist manifestos that advocate intervention in World War I and anticipate subsequent fascist rhetoric of power and virility. A major contribution to the study of the twentieth-century avant-garde and the first full-length study of Marinetti in English, The Other Modernism will interest all those concerned with twentieth-century literature, culture, and society and the problem of modern subjectivity.

This book of Nicholas Zurbrugg's challenging and provocative essays charts the most exciting developments in late 20th-century multimedia art. Zurbrugg challenges Jean Baudrillard's, Fredric Jameson's, and Achille Bonito-Oliva's unfavorable accounts of postmodern techno-culture. Interweaving literary and cultural theory, and visual studies, Zurbrugg demonstrates how multimedia visionaries such as Bill Viola and Robert Wilson are notable exceptions to the neutering of mass-media culture, bringing together the modernist and postmodern avant-garde.

Contemporary Futurist Thought written by Thomas Lombardo and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06-23 with Education categories.

Contemporary Futurist Thought describes recent thinking about the future, dealing with both the hopes and the fears expressed in modern times concerning what potentially lies ahead. There are many such hopes and fears perhaps an overpowering number, competing with each other and swirling about in the collective mind of humanity. Psychologist and futurist Tom Lombardo describes this mental universe of inspiring dreams and threatening premonitions regarding the future. The book begins with an in-depth examination of the highly influential literary genre of science fiction, which Dr. Lombardo identifies as the mythology of the future. He next describes the modern academic discipline of future studies which attempts to apply scientific methods and principles to an understanding of the future. Social and technological trends in the twentieth century are then reviewed, setting the stage for an analysis of the great contemporary transformation occurring in our present world. Given the powerful and pervasive changes taking place across the globe and throughout all aspects of human life, the questions arise: Where are we potentially heading and, perhaps more importantly, where should we be heading? The final chapter provides an extensive review of different answers to these questions. Describing theories and approaches that highlight science, technology, culture, human psychology, and religion, among other areas of focus, as well as integrative views which attempt to provide big pictures of all aspects of human life, the book provides a rich and broad overview of contemporary ideas and visions about the future. In the conclusion, Dr. Lombardo assesses and synthesizes these myriad perspectives, proposing a set of key ideas central to understanding the future. This book completes the study of future consciousness begun in its companion volume, The Evolution of Future Consciousness. These two volumes, rich in historical detail and concise observations on the interrelatedness of a wide range of interdisciplinary topics, are a significant contribution to the field of future studies and a valuable resource for educators, consultants, and anyone wishing to explore the significance of thinking about the future.

Romancing Decay written by Michael St John and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-05 with Literary Criticism categories.

This collection of fifteen essays looks at the theme of decadence and its recurring manifestations in European literature and literary criticism from medieval times to the present day. Various definitions of the term are explored, including the notion of decadence as physical decay. Some of the essays draw parallels between modernist and postmodernist notions of decadence. Similarities are detected between fin de siècle decadence at the end of the nineteenth century (which reaches its apotheosis in the character of Eugene Wrayburn in Our Mutual Friend) and depictions of decadence in our own age as we enter the new millennium.
