Excerpt from G. Harry Agnew, a Pioneer Missionary Personal acquaintance with Mr. Agnew, and more or less knowledge of his work during all the years he spent on the foreign field, assure me that the char acter of the man and the value of his service to the church render it eminently proper that such a record of his life and labors as follows should be given to the reading public; while many years of personal ac quaintance with the author of the work, as also his established reputation as a writer, and the interest and carefulness with which he has evidently devoted himself to its production, convince me that the volume he has produced will be received and read with general interest and satisfaction. Doctrine Spirit And Discipline written by Kevin M. Watson and has been published by Zondervan Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-25 with Religion categories.

The definitive history of the Wesleyan movement in the United States. An expansive, substantive history of the Wesleyan tradition in the United States, Doctrine, Spirit, and Discipline offers a broad survey of the Methodist movement as it developed and spread throughout America, from the colonial era to the present day. It also provides an theological appraisal of these developments in light of John Wesley's foundational vision. Beginning with Wesley himself, Watson describes the distinctiveness of the tradition at the outset. Then, as history unfolds, he identifies the common set of beliefs and practices which have unified a diverse group of people across the centuries, providing them a common identity through a number of divisions and mergers. In the midst of the sweeping changes happening in Methodism and the pan-Wesleyan movement today, Watson shows that the heart of the Wesleyan theological tradition is both more expansive and substantive than any singular denominational identity. "A fresh, panoramic overview of the history of the Methodist movement. . . Promises to be a standard textbook on the history of Methodism for years to come." —TIMOTHY C. TENNENT, Asbury Theological Seminary

The Wesleyan Holiness Movement written by Charles Edwin Jones and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Holiness churches categories.

The Wesleyan Holiness Movement began out of the teachings of John Wesley, who held that Christ's atonement provided sufficient grace for the believer to live in this world continually loving God and neighbor unconditionally, although the believer's expressions of that love would not be perfect. Since its founding, different movements have been spawned and have interpreted Wesley's doctrine in their own way. The two volumes presented here represent the first installation of a three-part series that greatly expands upon Charles Jones's landmark 1974 work. This work focuses on the Wesleyan Holiness Movement, while the third and fourth volumes have the Keswick Movement and the Holiness Pentecostal Movement as their focal points. This series provides materials for study of doctrine, worship, institutional development and personalities, as well as antecedent and related movements. It will serve to illustrate the history both of the Holiness Movement and the rural-urban transition in which it developed. Theological reconsiderations, realignments, and changes, as well as the nearly exponential growth of the Movement since the book's publication, make these new publications almost absolutely necessary. The guides retain all of the good and strong qualities exhibited in the first edition, and have strengthened them.
