Esta tese apresenta estudo sobre o gênero discursivo "mediacional", desde a sua elaboração até a sua recepção. Consideramos esse gênero aulas materializadas na escrita, registradas no suporte módulo, que constitui um tipo de material impresso destinado à formação continuada de docentes da educação básica, na modalidade de educação a distância (EaD). O trabalho está norteado pela metodologia etnográfica, em que buscamos subsídios para a geração dos corpora. A base teórica é formada pela sociolingüística interacional, letramento como prática social e gêneros discursivos. Na pesquisa, identificamos e analisamos aspectos lingüísticos, discursivos, sociais e interativos do gênero "mediacional"; investigamos seu contexto de produção conforme a perspectiva de elaboradores e, por último, investigamos face a face um contexto de letramento situado, onde esse gênero circula. Para isso, contamos com a participação de quem elabora o gênero "mediacional", professor virtual, e de quem dele se serve, aluno virtual, para sua formação continuada. Com este estudo, esperamos promover a reflexão acerca da produção de texto para a educação a distância; demonstrando como podemos recorrer à etnografia para subsidiar pesquisas no contexto de letramento situado; revelando como a interação face a face se faz importante para garimparmos conhecimentos e experiências de ações de linguagem do outro, principalmente para quem produz textos para EaD; e, sobretudo, mostrando como um determinado gênero discursivo organiza nossas ações.
