Gabrielle Bossis is a voice well worth listening to. Both Jesus and the Father come through in her He and I, suffusing the book with love and mercy (Catherine of Siena’s “pazzo d’amore”). Through her locutions, we feel Jesus more intimately than we do during most of our own more prosaic lives. These poems attempt to play off those two things: what we know against the splendor of what has been revealed to her. They seek to celebrate Who this marvelous He is.

Fred Zinnemann And The Cinema Of Resistance written by J. E. Smyth and has been published by Univ. Press of Mississippi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-13 with Performing Arts categories.

Fred Zinnemann directed some of the most acclaimed and controversial films of the twentieth century, yet he has been a shadowy presence in Hollywood history. In Fred Zinnemann and the Cinema of Resistance, J. E. Smyth reveals the intellectual passion behind some of the most powerful films ever made about the rise and resistance to fascism and the legacy of the Second World War, from The Seventh Cross and The Search to High Noon, From Here to Eternity, and Julia. Smyth’s book is the first to draw upon Zinnemann’s extensive papers at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and brings Fred Zinnemann’s vision, voice, and film practice to life. In his engagement with the defining historical struggles of the twentieth century, Zinnemann fought his own battles with the Hollywood studio system, the critics, and a public bent on forgetting. Zinnemann’s films explore the role of women and communists in the antifascist resistance, the West’s support of Franco after the Spanish Civil War, and the darker side of America’s national heritage. Smyth reconstructs a complex and conflicted portrait of Zinnemann’s cinema of resistance, examining his sketches, script annotations, editing and production notes, and personal letters. Illustrated with seventy black-and-white images from Zinnemann’s collection, Fred Zinnemann and the Cinema of Resistance discusses the director’s professional and personal relationships with Spencer Tracy, Montgomery Clift, Audrey Hepburn, Vanessa Redgrave, and Gary Cooper; the critical reaction to his revisionist Western, High Noon; his battles over the censorship of From Here to Eternity, The Nun’s Story, and Behold a Pale Horse; his unrealized history of the communist Revolution in China, Man’s Fate; and the controversial study of political assassination, The Day of the Jackal. In this intense, richly textured narrative, Smyth enters the mind of one of Hollywood’s master directors, redefining our knowledge of his artistic vision and practice.

Two morally compromised souls wage a battle of wits—and seduction—against the backdrop of the French Revolution in this slow-burn romance from bestselling author Shana Galen. After her late husband leaves her in debt to some dangerous people, Lady Gabrielle McCullough is forced to become a thief. In the intervening years, her skills have not gone unnoticed. After being recruited by the Scarlet Pimpernel, the mysterious do-gooder spiriting aristocrats out of revolutionary France, Gabrielle crosses the Channel for the most daring mission of her life. Accompanying her is the Earl of Sedgwick, a thief in his own right and an enticingly masculine presence. The man is not to be trusted—nor is Gabrielle’s body when he’s near. Ramsey Barnes would not say he is an honorable man. His whole life has been based on a lie; why change now? Although it pains him to deceive the tantalizing Gabrielle, he’s working toward an altogether different objective: unmasking the Scarlet Pimpernel. If Ramsey fails, his blackmailer will ruin him. But when Ramsey’s confronted with the carnage of the Reign of Terror, he seeks refuge in Gabrielle’s heated embrace. Now he faces a terrible choice: betray the woman who’s stolen his heart—or risk losing everything. Praise for Traitor in Her Arms “If you are looking for a fast-paced adventure combined with a passionate romance, then you will enjoy Traitor in Her Arms.”—Rakes and Rascals “No one writes historical suspense like Shana Galen and Traitor in Her Arms may be her best yet. Goethe written by Gabrielle S. Bersier and has been published by Haus Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-15 with Travel categories.

The German polymath Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is often seen as the quintessential eighteenth-century tourist, though with the exception of a trip to Italy he hardly left his homeland. Compared to several of his peripatetic contemporaries, he took few actual journeys, and the list of European cities in which he never set foot is quite long. He never saw Vienna, Paris, or London, for example, and he only once visited Berlin. During the last thirty years of his life he was essentially a homebound writer, but his intensive mental journeys countered this sedentary lifestyle, and the misconception of Goethe as a traveler springs from the uniquely international influence of his writing. While Goethe’s Italian Journey is a classic piece of travel writing, it was the product of his only extended physical journey. The majority, rather, were of the mind, taken amid the pages of books by others. In his reading, Goethe was the prototypical eighteenth-century armchair traveler, developing knowledge of places both near and far through the words and eyewitness accounts of others. In Goethe: Journeys of the Mind, Nancy Boerner and Gabrielle Bersier explore what it was that made the great writer distinct from his peers and offer insight into the ways that Goethe was able to explore the cultures and environments of places he never saw with his own eyes.
