Hep Ağabey dediğimiz Galip Erdem’le yaklaşık otuz yıldır tanışıyorduk. Evine gitmiştim, evimize gelmişti. Aynı sofraya oturmuşluğumuz, aynı iş ve sohbet ortamlarında bulunup, aynı toplantılara katılmışlığımız vardı. Seminerlerini, nasihatlerini dinlemiştim. Ayrıca yazılarının ve kitaplarının iyi bir okuyucusu olmanın yanında çizgili – beyaz kâğıtlara kurşun kalemle yazdığı o kargacık burgacık yazılarını çözüp daktilo etme şerefine nail olanlardan biriydim; kısacası kendisini iyi tanıyordum. Çalışmalarım sırasında bunun kolaylıklarını gördüm. Onun, benim bilmediğim yönlerini bilenler de vardı ve hepsinden önemlisi seveni çoktu. Pek çok kişi mikrofonlara, kameralara onunla ilgili hatıralarını anlatmış, dergi sayfalarına yazılar yazmıştı. Hakkında kitaplar çıkarılmış ve İnternet siteleri açılmıştı. Bunlar da büyük kolaylıktı benim için. Hepsini okudum, dinledim, inceledim. Sonunda şu kanaate vardım ki hatıralarda kopukluk ve çelişkiler vardı. Mesela onun çocukluğu ve üniversiteye kadar olan gençlik dönemi ile ilgili bilgiler son derece yetersiz ve bölük pörçüktü. Yüz yüze ya da telefonla görüştüğüm ilgililerden de tam sağlıklı bilgiler alamadım. Çalışmamı belli bir noktaya getirdikten sonra asıl kaynağı, onun ülkücülere emaneti biricik kızı Bilge ile haberleştikten sonra eşimle birlikte evlerine gittik ve çok yararlı bir görüşme yaptık. Sonunda; o güne kadar kimsenin haberdar olmadığı bilgi ve belgelere ulaşmıştım. Gördüm ki onun geçmişi ile ilgili yegâne kaynak yine kendisi ve kendisinden kalanlar… Bulduğum evrak içinde elli – altmış yıllık olanlar vardı. Onları bulunca kendi kendime sordum: “Ona ‘dağınık’ diyenler acaba elli yıl önce babalarından gelen mektubu ve verdikleri cevabı böyle saklıyor olabilirler mi?” Sonra da “Acaba onun ‘mektup’ merakı ta çocukluk ve gençlik dönemlerinde mi başlamıştı?” diye düşünmeden edemedim!
