We exist inside a Game of Thinking. We call it the universe, life, reality. But it is the Game of Thinking, a game not played by us, but by thought. Thinking is a fact; everything else is theory. Thought wants us to think. If that was not true, we would be able to stop thinking. But we are not. Thoughts are like zombies. One on one we can deal with them. When they come in bunches, we go under. In order for war to stop, people need to do more than lay down their weapons; they need to lay down their thoughts. Our thinking process runs our lives, yet we do not control it, create it, or guide it. Nor can we switch it off. For it to be real, freedom has to not be a thought. By acquiring more thought, thought acquires you. By acquiring less thought, you acquire you. There is no need to understand black holes or string theory. Those things don

Despite the proliferation of video games in the twenty-first century, the theory of game design is largely underdeveloped, leaving designers on their own to understand what games really are. Helping you produce better games, Game Design Theory: A New Philosophy for Understanding Games presents a bold new path for analyzing and designing games. The author offers a radical yet reasoned way of thinking about games and provides a holistic solution to understanding the difference between games and other types of interactive systems. He clearly details the definitions, concepts, and methods that form the fundamentals of this philosophy. He also uses the philosophy to analyze the history of games and modern trends as well as to design games. Providing a robust, useful philosophy for game design, this book gives you real answers about what games are and how they work. Through this paradigm, you will be better equipped to create fun games.

This collection of incisive articles gives a leading team of international philosophers a free kick toward exploring the complex and often hidden contours of the world of soccer. What does it really mean to be a fan (and why should we count Aristotle as one)? Why do great players such as Cristiano Ronaldo count as great artists (up there alongside Picasso, one author argues)? From the ethics of refereeing to the metaphysics of bent (like Beckham) space-time, this book shows soccer fans and philosophy buffs alike new ways to appreciate and understand the world's favorite sport.

How you think determines your success and satisfaction in life. Your thinking affects how you feel, what you say, and what you do. Your thoughts drive your actions, and your actions drive your outcomes. Becoming a more effective thinker will help you make better decisions, solve challenging problems, and achieve your most important goals. One of the biggest obstacles to effective thinking is that most of what drives our thoughts, emotions, and behavior is unconscious and automatic. Our unconscious minds include hidden beliefs, biases, and feelings from the past that continue to influence our thoughts, behavior, and experiences today. Fortunately, you can learn to identify any faulty beliefs and feelings that are holding you back and train your unconscious mind to work for you instead of against you. In the process, you'll gain a better understanding of yourself, other people, and your current situation.Your freedom and power come from your conscious mind, which includes everything you're aware of: your current thoughts, feelings, and perceptions and those you can retrieve from memory. Conscious thinking is intentional and rational. It allows you to choose your own goals rather than letting other people or your past environment choose them for you. Conscious thinking puts you in control of your own life. You can improve your conscious thinking by using the rules, tools, and strategies provided in The Thinking Game. You'll learn to develop a thinking mindset by cultivating the six personality traits of great thinkers. You'll discover how to strengthen four essential thinking skills, allowing you to get more done, in less time, with better results. You'll be provided with twelve effective thinking techniques to prompt better critical and creative thinking. And you'll receive a list of questions to improve your results in every major area of your life.In addition to helping you gain greater control over your thoughts, feelings, and behavior, The Thinking Game will help you achieve your goals by following a simple 4-step process to set the right goal, create the right plan, take the right action, and analyze and improve your results.

The Game of Life and How to Play It is a short work of metaphysics by American artist, illustrator, and New Thought teacher Florence Scovel Shinn. Published in 1925, this book explores the foundations of Shinn's philosophy - that what one puts out into the world is what one receives back. Shinn began her career as an artist and illustrator, drawing for Harper's magazine and several popular novels. After her marriage to artist Everett Shinn ended in 1912, she began to explore the nature of life more thoroughly, and became a writer and well-known teacher of New Thought. Her lectures and talks in New York City were well-attended, and she was a popular personality in the movement. Her primary philosophy, explained in The Game of Life and How to Play It, is that, "The Game of Life is a game of boomerangs. Man's thoughts, deeds and words, return to him sooner or later, with astounding accuracy." But while she refers to it as "a game," Shinn acknowledges that it's not an easy one to play. Plagued with fear and self-doubt, it's a constant struggle to maintain control of one's thoughts. Drawing from the Bible and anecdotes as her primary sources, she explores the subconscious, conscious, and superconscious minds, and how they work together either in service of or opposition to our wants and desires. The subconscious is "power, without direction." It has the ability to bring about the events that the conscious mind observes or images. This can be a wonderful thing if we're able to direct this power to our own benefit. But if we submit to doubts and negative self-talk, we can create the very circumstances that we hope to avoid. Even joking can lead to that which we fear. As Shinn writes, "The subconscious mind has no sense of humor and people often joke themselves into unhappy experiences." The conscious mind sees life as it appears to be. It observes and impresses the subconscious with its interpretations of what it sees - and these are often negative thoughts. In order to convince the subconscious mind, one must only bring that which serves it through one's consciousness. This can be done through affirmations, and by behaving as if one already has the gifts they seek. "If one asks for success and prepares for failure," she writes, "he will get the situation he has prepared for." Merely asking isn't enough! But how do we know what best serves us? These are the flashes of insight in the superconscious, where we are given the gift of intuition by God, the "Infinite Intelligence." In the end, "All power is given man (through right thinking) to bring his heaven upon his earth, and this is the goal of the 'Game of Life.'" Shinn was not the first to espouse these ideas. She may have been influenced by the writings of New Thought thinkers like Mary Baker Eddy and Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. Where Shinn stands out in the sea of metaphysical writers was the accessibility of her language. Written in simple English, with plenty of examples and illustrations, Shinn is able to connect with readers who may be exploring the topic for the first time. She continued in this way in her later works. These include Your Word is Your Want, which is a book of affirmations, and The Secret Door to Success, a collection of talks and lectures that she gave in New York City in the 1920s and 1930s. Shinn's work has had a long-lasting impact on later metaphysical thinkers, including influential writer/publisher Louise Hay and minister Norman Vincent Peale, author of the massively popular The Power of Positive Thinking.
