The Feminist Case Against Bureaucracy written by Kathy E. Ferguson and has been published by Temple University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1984 with Business & Economics categories.

"Like it or not, all of us who live in modern society are organization men and women. We tend to be caught in the traditional patterns of dominance and subordination. This book is both pessimistic and hopeful. With devastating thoroughness, the author shows how pervasive these patterns of relationship are in our work lives and personal lives, and how deep they run -- into the very language of the organization and of ordinary life. This is not a book about how women can succeed in business, but a criticism of books like those success manuals and notions like that idea of success. The author sees bureaucrats and clients as the 'second sex'. To fit in properly, they just learn the skills necessary to cope with subordinate status, skills that women have always learned as part of their 'femininity'. Liberal reforms -- placing more women in management positions, for example -- are not enough. What is required is the emergence of an alternative voice, one grounded in the experience and perceptions of women, that will challenge the patterns of control found in every aspect of modern life. Public discourse today is not the language of women even when women speak it. In this brilliant synthesis of the feminist literature and the literature on organizational theory and practice, the author suggests how a feminist discourse could interject into public debate a reformulation of the basic political questions of power, reason, and organization and thereby legitimate a concern of both autonomy and community. In the face of the massive incursions of bureaucracy into daily life, this is an important contribution to the project of human liberation."--Publisher description.

Making It In Corporate America written by Diane Smallen-Grob and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-11-30 with Social Science categories.

This book offers tips, pointers, and advice for women at all levels of the corporate world. Some how-to-succeed books for women offer helpful techniques and strategies to improve a career or fatten a paycheck. Nearly all are written by journalists, academics, and researchers, or by women who started their business careers at mid-level or higher because of previous experience. Yet few of these authors have experienced the humiliation, the apprehension, the dread, the fears, the naivete and discrimination that women in the trenches understand all too well. This book is based the personal experience of the author and the women she interviewed, making it a unique and practical guide to dispelling the fears that women have about asserting themselves in the workplace. Diane Smallen-Grob presents interviews with women executives who struggled for decent jobs and progressive careers in a wide variety of industries. The book focuses on what women did to succeed, where they are now, and—most importantly—what helped them rise among the ranks. The women share their experiences, insights, and stories. Common-sense pointers are offered for surviving the grueling boot camp that all women in business must endure. Women of every generation need to know that history can and does repeat itself, and that they must be forewarned, aware of the signs, and strong enough to make the best choices during the long climb to the top.

Taylor is identified as the national coordinator of the Association of Libertarian Feminists and a founding member of Feminists for Free Expression. From her introduction: "This is a book that began with asking a number of women how they handled unpleasant encounters in the workplace, and how they would suggest that others handle them. I then explored hundreds of articles on the general subject of sexual harassment..." Writing primarily to women, she describes the scope of the problem, discusses male group culture, challenges assumptions that men should make all the changes and that women must turn to the law for help when the workplace is uncomfortable, and proposes strategies to establish increased understanding and communication.
