Gay And Lesbian Couples written by Richard Mackey and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-11-25 with Family & Relationships categories.

The voices in this book come from the stories of gay and lesbian partners who talk about their struggles over the years in building a life together. The stories reach beyond the obvious realities of sexual orientation to speak to the joys, sorrows, hopes, and fears of human beings who are committed to making their relationships work. Based on a life-span perspective, in-depth interviews of people whose relationships have lasted more than 15 years explored how partners adapted over the years. Each interview consisted of questions that focused upon dimensions of these relationships over time from the unique perspective of each partner. They were asked about conflict over the years, decision-making styles, ways of working out roles, the importance of social supports, and sexual and psychological intimacy. The research upon which the book is based has continuity with the authors' earlier work on lasting relationships among heterosexual couples, including Lasting Marriages: Men and Women Growing Together (Praeger, 1995). Compared to marriages, relatively little research has been done on the development of same sex relationships. This book will be of great interest to all researchers and students of gender differences, marriage and family therapy, human sexuality, and interpersonal relationships.

In addition to revealing specific information about gay and lesbian couples, Social Services for Gay and Lesbian Couples also explores the therapeutic implications of this knowledge for social service providers. Find sources of support for raising a nontraditional family in a straight world! The experience of parenting is commonly overlooked in psychological theory, and lesbians and gay men are not typically considered as parents or parents to be. Gay and Lesbian Parenting examines the psychological issues related to developing family and becoming parents for gay men and lesbians. Instead of pathologizing gay and lesbian families, it explores the emotional growth and development issues inherent in child-rearing. Traditionally, coming out as gay or lesbian meant abandoning any hope of becoming a parent or keeping your children if you already had them. But with the “gayby boom” in full swing, more and more gay and lesbian couples are having new babies, adopting children, and continuing to raise the offspring of previous heterosexual relationships. Although gay and lesbian parents still face unique challenges in building and rearing a family, as well as the usual problems heterosexual couples encounter, Gay and Lesbian Parenting unflinchingly examines these concerns and offers positive suggestions and ideas for dealing with the difficulties. This life-affirming book takes a look at the practical and emotional realities of raising children in nontraditional family structures, including: issues of kinship, shared motherhood, and possessiveness in lesbian couples legal issues entailed by the lack of marriage and legal kinship parenthood as a powerful force for personal growth and development fatherhood as a process of creating connectedness in the family, community, and place of worship original empirical research on the mental health of lesbians’children the history of the gay and lesbian movement as it relates to child-rearing Gay and Lesbian Parenting affirms the power of gay and lesbian couples to raise healthy, happy children and to change and grow through their experience of parenting. This book is also essential for mental health professionals from psychiatric nurses to psychiatrists who are working with the gay and lesbian community.

Couples written by John Gettings and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Gay couples categories.

During New York City's Stonewall 25 and Gay Pride celebration in 1994, photographer John Gettings shot black-and-white portraits of gay and lesbian couples, and later recorded their comments about their lives and their love for each other. The result is this stunning collection, a compendium of words and images that provides the clearest window yet into the thoughts, emotions, and devotion of same-sex couples and their struggles and joys enroute to each other. These are not celebrities, but ordinary citizens from all walks of life - accountants, teachers, lawyers, bartenders, chauffeurs, corporate executives - and many regions and backgrounds. They represent the full spectrum of contemporary gay culture, and their revelations about coming out, family reactions to their partnerships, limitations on their rights, and forging a life together are infallibly colored with caring and commitment. "We are more than lovers", Leland says of his partner of 13 years, "we are best friends". Maureen says, "Helen has been the greatest person and the best influence in my life". At a time when domestic partnerships and same-sex marriages are increasingly visible on judicial, legislative, and political agendas, Couples addresses a fundamental issue of human connections with honesty, humor, perceptiveness, and great passion.
