Firms generally depend upon innovations in order to achieve advantages on competitive markets, thus also raising societal questions. Business ethics provides a normative framework for balancing the different perspectives, values, and interests at stake. This balance must be achieved both at relevant firm and regulatory levels. Business Ethics of Innovation is thus necessarily an interdisciplinary endeavour. This volume assesses general questions of how business ethics may contribute to adequate innovations and specifically discusses respective case studies in pharmaceutical and IT sectors.

This book presents the findings of the extensive research progrannne funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Council) and entitled 'Technological Change and Regional Development in Europe'. The goal of this programme was to carry out research by means of empirical surveys into the relationship between technological change and regional development. Over a period of six years, a total of 50 research projects have been undertaken in three phases, each lasting two years. This research programme has succeeded in actively involving leading German regional scientists from many universities as well as non-university research institutions. In addition, numerous research projects were carried out in close co-operation with internationally renowned partners. We should like to express our gratitude for the support provided by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Without their financial backing of the research programme, it would not have been possible to undertake such an ambitious project. Thanks also go to the contributors of this volume for their willingness to participate in our joint project. We wish in addition to acknowledge the contribution of Prof. Dr. Philip Cooke whose refereeing of the chapters has enhanced the quality of the work presented here. Finally, our thanks go to Angela Spence for her expert editorial assistance, linguistic editing and the preparation of the Index, and also Franco Vaio for taking care of the technical aspects and production of the final copy. Their combined efforts have been crucial for successfully bringing together contributions from so many different authors in a single volume.

Hidden Innovation written by Stuart Cunningham and has been published by University of Queensland Press(Australia) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Business & Economics categories.

Because of the divergence in world views and methods between scientists and the creative sector, innovation systems and policies have focused for decades on science, engineering, technology, and medicine. The humanities, arts, and social sciences have had their contributions hidden from research agendas, policy and program initiatives, and the public mind. But structural changes to advanced economies and societies have brought service industries and the creative sector to greater prominence as key contributors to innovation. Hidden Innovation peels back the veil, tracing the way innovation occurs through new forms of screen production enabled by social media platforms as well as in public broadcasting. It shows that creative workers are contributing fresh ideas across the economy, and traces how policies are beginning to catch up with the changing social and economic realities, on a global level. Hidden Innovations argues that the innovation framework offers the best opportunity in decades to reassess the case for the public role of the humanities, particularly the media and cultural and communication studies.

When Clothes Become Fashion written by Ingrid Loschek and has been published by Berg this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08-01 with Design categories.

When, how and why do clothes become fashion? Fashion is more than mere clothing. It is a moment of invention, a distillation of desire, a reflection of a zeitgeist. It is also a business relying on an intricate network of manufacture, marketing and retail. Fashion is both medium and message but it does not explain itself. It requires language and images for its global mediation. It develops from the prescience of the designer and is dependent on acceptance by observers and wearers alike. When Clothes Become Fashion explores the structures and strategies which underlie fashion innovation, how fashion is perceived and the point at which clothing is accepted or rejected as fashion. The book provides a clear theoretical framework for understanding the world of fashion - its aesthetic premises, plurality of styles, performative impulses, social qualities and economic conditions.

Knowledge economy policies typically seek to harness higher education to economic outcomes. Tensions between the arts and humanities and the commercial imperatives of the knowledge economy are growing. This book explores how these tensions are played out within international and national higher education policies, within university arts and humanities departments and within the process of writing itself. Essays in this collection investigate the impact of the knowledge economy phenomenon on the arts and humanities and suggest both practical and creative ways of responding to this global policy environment. This book is relevant to scholars who are re-thinking the theory and practice of the arts and humanities within the context of globalization, information technology and entrepreneurship. It will interest students and academics whose courses engage with notions of «the commodity», «knowledge», and «creativity» within the fields of cultural and media studies, education and sociology. It will be of particular interest to academics and postgraduates researching contemporary higher education policy, cultural policy and research policy.
