Zwar ist das Forschungsfeld mit geschichtswissenschaftlichen Methoden unter zahlreichen Gesichtspunkten untersucht, doch stellt die Anwendung literaturwissenschaftlicher Methoden auf die Texte Galens einen Zugriff dar, der neue Erkenntnisse ermöglicht, dies auch durch die Konfrontation der Ergebnisse mit der Analyse einer der Adventspredigten Kardinal Michael von Faulhabers und zweier Reden des Schriftstellers Ernst Wiecherts.
