Church tradition has long held that humanity arose from two people living in a garden of paradise in the Mesopotamian basin roughly six thousand years ago. Scientists now have abundant evidence that the human population never numbered less than ten thousand, originated out of Africa hundreds of thousands of years ago, and descended from ancestors that we share in common with several other species (some now extinct, some still living). Is it possible to make these two starkly different worldviews agree, or do we have to choose one and discard the other? This book will summarize the fossil and genetic discoveries that support the scientific view, and then address the impact that this has upon many Christian theological tenets. In the process, it presents many examples of the church adjusting long-held traditions and teachings in the face of scientific advances, as well as examples of how we often hold two seemingly contradictory ideas together without feeling a need to discard one of them. Many theologians have written on this topic without adequately incorporating the scientific aspects. Many others have addressed the science without exploring the impact on theology. This book accomplishes both.

"A marvelous and insightful review of the creationism/evolution controversy by an individual who has contributed immeasurably to the public understanding of science."—Lee Hood, author of The Code of Codes: Scientific and Social Issues in the Human Genome Project "I know of no book that explains the evolution/creation controversy in such a comprehensive manner, and yet in a style that will be understood by high school students. It demarcates those areas of thought that belong to faith-supported religion on the one hand, and reason-supported science on the other without denigrating either."—Richard E. Dickerson, UCLA "There are few scientists as knowledgeable and clear about how science works, and as thoughtful about the creation and evolution controversy as John A. Moore. A product of Moore's wisdom and his over 60 years experience as a brilliant and productive scholar, From Genesis to Genetics will bring understanding to both citizens and scientists who are grappling with the contentious issues of science and religion, evolution and creationism."—Eugenie C. Scott, Executive Director, National Center for Science Education

How should living things and our own human nature be changed in the hands of those who can alter them genetically? How do we set limits, and what goals are legitimate pursuits? This book's contribution to a theological understanding of science and technology helps in showing how Christian theology can provide a solid framework for considering these issues.

The lines have been drawn. On one side are young earth creationists, who assert that God created the universe in six days and—based on calculations derived from the Bible—that the earth is six thousand years old. On the other side are secular scientists, who claim the universe has existed for over thirteen billion years, the earth for 4.5 billion. Scientists claim that no miracles were necessary to form the universe, and that everything is explained by natural causes. However, young earth creationists point to verses at the beginning of the Bible and the beginning of the book of John that clearly claim that God created the universe. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Genesis 1:1–2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1–3 But what if there is no contradiction between scientific data and the Bible? Arnold Guyot was a nineteenth-century geologist and geographer at Princeton University. In addition to his numerous scientific accomplishments, he developed the day-age interpretation of Genesis 1, in which the "days" of creation represent geologic ages. When we view the Bible through this lens, we find that modern science has not only failed to refute the miracles of Genesis, but has in fact provided abundant evidence for their veracity. Genesis Revealed: A Scientific Examination of the Creation Story takes readers down the twin paths of science and theology to show that they lead us to the same destination. Citing a multitude of discoveries in astronomy and geology, Dr. Peter Waller makes a compelling case for Guyot’s interpretation—and for the miracles described in Genesis 1:1–25.

The idea of creation and creativity is among the most powerful and pervasive of metaphors bequeathed to the modern world by the scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Twelve specialists here explore the original sources and contemporary manifestations of the theme in both high and low culture, from the Book of Genesis to James Joyce's Ulysses, Children of Gebalawi by the Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz, and the Polish poetry of Wislawa Szymborska, and to popular films, such as Bruce Almighty and Animatrix, and animation films for children. Even current debates on genetics and ecology and the public exhibition of plastinated human bodies invoke these same themes, and make this volume a topical contribution to cultural studies today. The God Gene written by R. S. D'Agostino and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Evolution categories.

The God Gene is not a book about religion per se. Rather it represents a logical explanation of humankind's development, purpose and relationship with God that each of us sees in a different way. Although the means we humans use to arrive at our religious conclusions may be questioned, there is nothing in the book that challenges any religion itself or the belief in god. In fact, The God Gene allows us to translate commonly accepted miracles of faith into logical actions of the mind without comprising our belief in God or the prophets. The God Gene seeks answers to age-old questions: If God created everything does that include disease? How can God be everywhere at the same time? If God is all powerful why doesn't he simply stop all Evil? Why must innocent children suffer pain and hardship? If God can see the future why does he allow bad events? Could our God be a product of another Universe? Who are the Empyreans? What is the true purpose of our existence? How and when will our world end?
