Was ist geschehen? [Genesis of a Religion - Kimbanguism and its Farewell to Ecumenism] In 2021, Kimbanguism celebrated its centenary since the appearance of the prophet Simon Kimbangu. In the same year, they were expelled from the World Council of Churches (WCC). What happened? What theological positions did the first African-initiated member church of the WCC take to make this happen? This work explores these and other questions, using field research from Congo and archival materials from the WCC to analyse the historical as well as theological developments of this religious grouping in its first hundred years. The author develops a six-stage model to show how the genesis of a new religion is fostered and how a new religious formation emerges from a mother religion.

Reflections on the Early Christian History of Religion documents the results of two recent workshops on Martin Hengel's and Maria Schwemer's first volume of first volume of Geschichte des frühen Christentums (Jesus und das Judentum [title of vol. 1], Tübingen 2007) and Larry Hurtado's Lord Jesus Christ: Devotion to Jesus in Earliest Christianity (Grand Rapids 2003). The contributors, including Hengel himself, focus on problems and possibilities of studying and presenting Christian religion in Roman Antiquity. They discuss distinctive features of these two remarkable publications and some material aspects that illustrate the relationship between the historical study of early Christian religion, religious studies in general and New Testament studies in particular.

Reconsidering The Origins Of Recognition written by John Van Houdt and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-19 with History categories.

This volume brings together for the first time a group of young researchers who can be seen as representative of a new generation of researchers working on German idealism. Over the past few decades, several generations of the reception of German idealist philosophers have resulted in an intensive, inspiring and fruitful debate about the concept ‘recognition’, a central topic in German idealism and the central topic of this book. Critically approaching many of the classical boundaries set up by earlier generations, the new wave of researchers in this volume explores, diagnoses, analyzes and evaluates the prospects for, and limits of, recognition from an informed yet independent perspective. The contributors to this volume overcome both the traditionally strong emphasis on practical, especially political, philosophy when dealing with ‘recognition’, and classical divisions such as the ‘divide’ between analytic and continental philosophy, or between Frankfurt School interpretations and more scholarly approaches. This unique combination of methodological interests leads to a variety of original voices which incorporate the history of reception, while also showing how German idealism continues to inspire new generations of philosophers. This book provides a first step toward a comprehensive conception of German idealism, through critical re-readings of the classical texts of German idealism, approaching their argumentative potential, their internal development, and, finally, their limits.

English summary: In the present age, the reference to God within constitutions is just as much a bone of contention as the "deification of the state" because of the threat it may pose to the upholding of human rights. The idea of an "absolute" state has a long history in the political philosophy of modernity and culminates with Hegel. This notion belongs to the emancipation of the secular state from religious and ecclesiastical dictation, to the safeguarding of religious freedom and other fundamental rights. State-determined right is the only source of binding and enforceable laws. Ludwig Siep's study shows how philosophers since the time of the French Revolution viewed the state to be in a liberty-threatening rivalry with religious and economic forces. It could retain the loyalty of its subjects only through an independent imparting of meaning. In the case of emergency, it would have to be worth it to relinquish all private interests and to sacrifice just as much for the state as for belief. This idealization of the state was itself intended to support the protection of individual rights - quite the opposite to the 20th century totalitarian states disdainful of these rights. However, state sovereignty was not sufficiently limited by defensive rights of its citizens - especially in the German tradition. From this, the author draws out the implications for the present discussion in the wake of the "return of religion." In order to secure basic rights in the face of religious powers and private interests, the state must remain the highest judicial authority - it cannot become "post-secular." If religious communities defend human rights credibly, both inwardly and outwardly, and accept the impartial state, there is no need for a "moral" or even "sacred" state authority. In order to rein the global economy, however, some sovereignty must be given over to supranational organs - but without lack of legitimate power resulting in "failed states."

This volume contains the five papers read at a Symposium held in Leiden on 10 December 1991, on the occasion of the centenary of Abraham Kuenen's death, together with four other articles. The introductory article gives a short biography of Kuenen, one article deals with his method, two concern his approach to the religion of ancient Israel, and the other six discuss the reception of his work on the Pentateuch and later developments in various countries. Together these articles highlight the significance of this great Old Testament scholar, and at the same time identify issues which continue to confront Old Testament research. Though the wide variety of new approaches to the Old Testament has contributed greatly to our understanding of it, it is clear that historical research has not been rendered obsolete or superfluous by it.

In a systematic treatment of Hegel's concept of philosophy and all of the different aspects related to it, this collection explores how Hegel and his understanding of his discipline can be put into dialogue with current metaphilosophical inquiries and shed light on the philosophical examination of the nature of philosophy itself. Taking into account specific aspects of Hegel's elaboration on philosophy such the scientificity of philosophy as a self-grounding rational process and his explanation of the relationship between philosophy and the history of philosophy, an international line-up of contributors consider: - Hegel's concept of philosophy in general from skepticism, idealism, history and difference, to time, politics and religion - The relation of Hegel's concept of philosophy to other philosophical traditions and philosophers including Kant, Fichte, Schelling, and Jacobi - Hegel's concept of philosophy with reference to philosophy's relation to other forms of rationality and disciplines - The relation of Hegel's concept of philosophy to specific issues in present metaphilosophical debates. Reflecting the renewed and widespread interest in Hegel seen in Analytic philosophy and Continental thought, this volume advances study of Hegel's conceptual tools and provides new readings of traditional philosophical problems.

Religionen Und Demokratie written by Ines-Jacqueline Werkner and has been published by Springer-Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-04-16 with Political Science categories.
