The Genius Checklist written by Dean Keith Simonton and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-12 with Psychology categories.

What it takes to be a genius: nine essential and contradictory ingredients. What does it take to be a genius? A high score on an IQ test? Brilliant physicist Richard Feynman's IQ was too low for membership in Mensa. Suffering from varying degrees of mental illness? Creativity is often considered a marker of mental health. Be a child prodigy like Mozart, or a later bloomer like Beethoven? Die tragically young, like Keats, or live to a ripe old age like Goethe? In The Genius Checklist, Dean Keith Simonton examines the key factors in creative genius and finds that they are more than a little contradictory. Simonton, who has studied creativity and genius for more than four decades, draws on both scientific research and stories from the lives of famous creative geniuses that range from Isaac Newton to Vincent van Gogh to Virginia Woolf. He explains the origin of IQ tests and the art of estimating the IQ of long-dead historical figures (John Stuart Mill: 200; Charles Darwin: 160). He compares IQ scores with achieved eminence as measures of genius, and he draws a distinction between artistic and scientific genius. He rules out birth order as a determining factor (in the James family alone, three geniuses at three different birth-order positions: William James, firs-tborn; Henry James, second born; Alice James, born fifth and last); considers Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hour rule; and describes how the “lone” genius gets enmeshed in social networks. Genius, Simonton explains, operates in ways so subtle that they seem contradictory. Genius is born and made, the domain of child prodigies and their elders. Simonton's checklist gives us a new, integrative way to understand geniuses—and perhaps even to nurture your own genius!

Born Evil Or Born Genius written by Barry Sudiker and has been published by SP Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-11 with Psychology categories.

A fascinating study of behaviour and its consequences, this work will make a huge impact in our thinking about crime and how to prevent it. In this controversial and shocking book, Barry Sudiker proves, through research and statistics, that both genius and criminality are inherited. He maintains that heredity plays a role in everything from I.Q. and eye colour to morals and the propensity for evil. Even more stunning are the authors case studies and examples that support his theories. In the classic nature vs. nurture debate, Sudiker insists that environment accounts for only three percent of ones behaviour. Genetics and predispositions account for the rest, which are passed down from the parents and grandparents. The author delves into controversial topics as Eugenics, starting: "Genetics, by shaping a human beings characteristics, determines everything from intelligence to the propensity to commit murder. The criminal element of society therefore is effected by genetics, and if this can be harnessed, genetics can be used to reduce crime in the world and help advance and improve humankind"

As many as 2% of children could potentially fall into the category of’ gifted’ so quite a few families can find themselves in the situation of having such a child to rear. This can raise a number of questions and issues to deal with – andthey are not always positive. Everyone likes to think their children are specially talented, above average intelligence, gifted in some respect. Often they might be right - but are they wishing something on themselves and the child that it is better not to have? The history of child prodigies is mainly a story of difficulties, pressures, unfulfilled potential and often mental health and social problems that manifest themselves later in life. How the child develops might depend on the atmosphere and environment they are brought up in, the type of nurturing and encouragement they get and how their parents and institutions handle the stresses and challenges of dealing with what can often be a difficult young person. Some child geniuses do grow up to be successful adults in useful occupations – though often they still fail in being rounded individuals. Others struggle with the expectations of being a prodigy or the social, emotional or personal pressures it brings and might drop out or end up working in McDonalds or in an office job (like Albert Einstein initially). Many children identified as prodigies turn out to be very one-dimensional in their genius, perhaps having a flair for numbers or memorising lists, playing a musical instrument or learning languages, but lacking in other skills that make their talents useful or usable. There is a feeling that the standard education system fails these type of children. (There is probably a general feeling that education is letting most children down in our society today.) This compilation looks at gifted children; what makes them gifted, how they can be nurtured and what eventually happens to them. It also recounts some specific histories of young genius and the problems and outcomes for some of the individuals endowed with these qualities. We won’t all have gifted children – and maybe that is not such a bad thing. Equally, if we, as parents, applied some of the nurture principles that are recommended for prodigies, perhaps the average child would benefit also and become a more successful, complete individual due to going through the process. The parents are, undoubtedly, important factors in the ultimate outcome. Perhaps some of the information here can help you determine what type
