Liebe Leserin, lieber Leser, schon seit Jahren warnen Experten davor, dass unsere Gesellschaft immer weiter auseinanderdriftet. Häufig können sich Streitende nicht einmal über die ihrem Konflikt zugrundeliegenden Fakten einigen, scheitern schon an einem einvernehmlichen Startpunkt für eine lösungsorientierte Kommunikation. Es lohnt sich oft, aus der Situation herauszutreten und das Problem von außen zu betrachten: Denn die Dynamik von Konflikten ist ein seit vielen Jahren gut untersuchtes Forschungsfeld. Mit gesicherten Erkenntnissen und Methoden, die wirklich funktionieren – ganz gleich ob es um Konflikte zwischen gesellschaftlichen Gruppen geht oder um privaten Streit. Zwei geschiedene Eheleute streiten um den Unterhalt. Ein Arbeitgeber und seine Mitarbeiter sind sich uneins über die Zumutbarkeit von Überstunden. Zwei Atommächte liegen im Clinch um einen Abrüstungsvertrag. Natürlich sind all das Konflikte mit höchst unterschiedlichen Inhalten. Aber es gibt Muster, die immer gleich funktionieren, wenn zwei Parteien verschiedene Interessen durchsetzen wollen. Transparenz, Einfühlungsvermögen, Klarheit sind meistens hilfreich. Die Besinnung auf geteilte Werte, die systematische Suche nach gemeinsamem Grund. In dieser Ausgabe von GEOkompakt haben wir für Sie zusammengetragen, was die Wissenschaft über Konfliktlösung herausgefunden hat – und wie auch Sie diese Erkenntnisse nutzen können. Freilich verändert sich der Gegenstand der Forschung unentwegt, neue Aspekte kommen hinzu: Die ungehemmte Wut, die sich in der Anonymität des Internets Bahn bricht, erfordert andere Konzepte als ein persönlicher Streit am Wirtshaustisch. Auch davon berichten wir in diesem Heft (Seite 98).Wir wünschen Ihnen gute Erkenntnisse bei der Lektüre – und viele Inspirationen für ein harmonisches Miteinander. Für die datengenerierenden Stellen in den zuständigen Ministerien und in den statistischen Ämtern des Bundes, der Länder und der Kommunen sollen die vorgestellten Untersuchungen den Wert ihrer Daten für wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen unterstreichen und so ein Bewusstsein für die Notwendigkeit eines leichten Datenzugangs schaffen.

Plato’s view that mathematics paves the way for his philosophy of forms is well known. This book attempts to flesh out the relationship between mathematics and philosophy as Plato conceived them by proposing that in his view, although it is philosophy that came up with the concept of beings, which he calls forms, and highlighted their importance, first to natural philosophy and then to ethics, the things that do qualify as beings are inchoately revealed by mathematics as the raw materials that must be further processed by philosophy (mathematicians, to use Plato’s simile in the Euthedemus, do not invent the theorems they prove but discover beings and, like hunters who must hand over what they catch to chefs if it is going to turn into something useful, they must hand over their discoveries to philosophers). Even those forms that do not bear names of mathematical objects, such as the famous forms of beauty and goodness, are in fact forms of mathematical objects. The first chapter is an attempt to defend this thesis. The second argues that for Plato philosophy’s crucial task of investigating the exfoliation of the forms into the sensible world, including the sphere of human private and public life, is already foreshadowed in one of its branches, astronomy.
