In einem Buch, das für mich zu den Klassikern der Weltliteratur zählt, brechen zwei Überlebenskünstler zu einer großen Reise auf. Es handelt sich dabei um einen Tiger und einen Bären, die das Glück suchen. Auf einer Straße treffen sie den Reiseesel »Mallorca«, der ihnen glaubhaft versichert, dass das Glück in der Ferne liege. Und so reisen sie gemeinsam über das Meer, aber kaum angekommen, muss der Esel weiter, da die Ferne ja niemals dort sein kann, wo man gerade ist. Nun lautet die Quintessenz aus Janoschs »Oh, wie schön ist Panama« zwar, dass man das Glück mitunter doch zu Hause findet – meine Sympathien in dieser Geschichte gelten dennoch dem Esel. Wie »Mallorca« reiste auch ich vor genau 20 Jahren einmal wie im Zeitraffer um die Welt. Sieben Stopps in sechs Ländern in 24 Tagen. Aus heutiger Sicht nicht zuletzt aus Klimagründen eine wahre Eselei und doch ein wundervolles Erlebnis. Noch immer lässt mich das Gefühl nicht los, in die Ferne aufbrechen zu wollen, kaum bin ich von unterwegs zurück – wenn auch nicht nach durchschnittlich drei Tagen, wie einst auf meiner Weltreise. Ich hoffe, Ihnen geht das genauso. Denn dann sind Sie in dieser Ausgabe genau richtig.

Ich schreibe diesen Text am bislang heißesten Tag des Jahres und in der Hoffnung, dass Erinnerungen nicht nur wärmen, sondern auch kühlen können. Also, Beginn Zeitreise: Ich hatte mein Studium fast abgeschlossen, wollte aber noch ein Auslandssemester einlegen. So landete ich durch Zufall im Winter in einer kleinen finnischen Stadt mit unaussprechlichem Namen, wo die Tage zunächst so kurz waren, dass ich mich ständig fragte, ob es schon wieder oder noch immer dunkel sei. Viel Zeit nutzte ich daher für Streifzüge durchs nahe Helsinki. Von Beginn an beeindruckte mich dort die Liebe zu Design und Architektur, die Aufgeschlossenheit für alles Neue. Die Bibliotheken, die Museen, die Cafés mit Internetterminals – alles war moderner, als ich es kannte. Es wundert nicht, dass sich Helsinki – wie Sie in meiner Lieblingsgeschichte ab S. 98 lesen können – längst auf den Weg zur klimaneutralen Stadt gemacht hat. Und es wundert genauso wenig, dass so viele smarte nachhaltige Ideen aus Finnland kommen und aus Norwegen, Schweden, Dänemark und Island. Eben darum haben wir dem »nachhaltigen Norden« ein ganzes Heft gewidmet. In Finnland übrigens blieb mir nur die Sprache fremd. Am Ende des Aufenthalts beherrschte ich lediglich die wenig hilfreiche Lüge Minun koira on sairas (Mein Hund ist krank) und Rakastan Helsinkiä. Das heißt: »Ich liebe Helsinki« – und ist bis heute die reine Wahrheit. Viel Spaß beim Lesen und Nachreisen!

Und auf eine weitere Winterfreude möchte ich Sie an dieser Stelle hinweisen. Wir begleiten einen ganz Großen, der sich zu ganz Kleinen aufmacht: Mit TV-Ikone Hape Kerkeling begeben wir uns in zwei Teilen auf die Reise zu sieben europäischen Zwergstaaten. Los geht's mit Teil 1 und den ersten drei Ländern auf S. 60. Wer auf den Geschmack gekommen ist, für den gibt's ab dem 21.11.21 jeweils sonntags um 19.10 Uhr die Reise von Hape zum Nachschauen bei unseren Kolleginnen und Kollegen von VOX.
