This book features a selection of articles based on the XXXV Białowieża Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics, 2016. The series of Białowieża workshops, attended by a community of experts at the crossroads of mathematics and physics, is a major annual event in the field. The works in this book, based on presentations given at the workshop, are previously unpublished, at the cutting edge of current research, typically grounded in geometry and analysis, and with applications to classical and quantum physics. In 2016 the special session "Integrability and Geometry" in particular attracted pioneers and leading specialists in the field. Traditionally, the Białowieża Workshop is followed by a School on Geometry and Physics, for advanced graduate students and early-career researchers, and the book also includes extended abstracts of the lecture series.

This book collects papers based on the XXXVI Białowieża Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics, 2017. The Workshop, which attracts a community of experts active at the crossroads of mathematics and physics, represents a major annual event in the field. Based on presentations given at the Workshop, the papers gathered here are previously unpublished, at the cutting edge of current research, and primarily grounded in geometry and analysis, with applications to classical and quantum physics. In addition, a Special Session was dedicated to S. Twareque Ali, a distinguished mathematical physicist at Concordia University, Montreal, who passed away in January 2016. For the past six years, the Białowieża Workshops have been complemented by a School on Geometry and Physics, comprising a series of advanced lectures for graduate students and early-career researchers. The extended abstracts of this year’s lecture series are also included here. The unique character of the Workshop-and-School series is due in part to the venue: a famous historical, cultural and environmental site in the Białowieża forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre in eastern Poland. Lectures are given in the Nature and Forest Museum, and local traditions are interwoven with the scientific activities.

Symmetry in Geometry and Analysis is a Festschrift honoring Toshiyuki Kobayashi. The three volumes feature 35 selected contributions from invited speakers of twin conferences held in June 2022 in Reims, France, and in September 2022 in Tokyo, Japan. These contributions highlight the profound impact of Prof. Kobayashi’s pioneering ideas, groundbreaking discoveries, and significant achievements in the development of analytic representation theory, noncommutative harmonic analysis, and the geometry of discontinuous groups beyond the Riemannian context, among other areas, over the past four decades. The first volume of the Festschrift includes a survey article on Kobayashi’s innovative contributions to Mathematics, emphasizing their influence and introducing new perspectives across various fields. Original articles contained in Volume 1 focus on differential geometry with symmetries as well as algebraic and geometric aspects of representation theory of reductive Lie groups and related topics. Contributions are by Velleda Baldoni, Dan Barbasch, Leticia Barchini, Sigiswald Barbier, Yves Benoist, Sam Claerebout, Michael Eastwood, Wee Teck Gan, William M. Goldman, Roger Howe, Kazuki Kannaka, Toshihisa Kubo, Hung Yean Loke, Jia-Jun Ma, Reiko Miyaoka, Kento Ogawa, Takayuki Okuda, Yoshiki Oshima, Paul-Émile Paradan, Annegret Paul, Michael Pevzner, Yiannis Sakellaridis, Atsumi Sasaki, Gordan Savin, Hideko Sekiguchi, Binyong Sun, Yuichiro Tanaka, Koichi Tojo, Peter Trapa, Michèle Vergne, Joseph A. Wolf, Kayue Daniel Wong, and Chen-Bo Zhu. The Mathematical Work of Toshiyuki Kobayashi is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Based on lectures held at the 8th edition of the series of summer schools in Villa de Leyva since 1999, this book presents an introduction to topics of current interest at the interface of geometry, algebra, analysis, topology and theoretical physics. It is aimed at graduate students and researchers in physics or mathematics, and offers an introduction to the topics discussed in the two weeks of the summer school: operator algebras, conformal field theory, black holes, relativistic fluids, Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids, renormalization methods, spectral geometry and index theory for pseudo-differential operators.

Quantum Theory And Symmetries With Lie Theory And Its Applications In Physics Volume 1 written by Vladimir Dobrev and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-28 with Mathematics categories.
This book is the first volume of proceedings from the joint conference X International Symposium “Quantum Theory and Symmetries” (QTS-X) and XII International Workshop “Lie Theory and Its Applications in Physics” (LT-XII), held on 19–25 June 2017 in Varna, Bulgaria. The QTS series was founded on the core principle that symmetries underlie all descriptions of quantum systems. It has since evolved into a symposium at the forefront of theoretical and mathematical physics. The LT series covers the whole field of Lie theory in its widest sense, together with its applications in many areas of physics. As an interface between mathematics and physics, the workshop serves as a meeting place for mathematicians and theoretical and mathematical physicists. In dividing the material between the two volumes, the Editor has sought to select papers that are more oriented toward mathematics for the first volume, and those focusing more on physics for the second. However, this division is relative, since many papers are equally suitable for either volume. The topics addressed in this volume represent the latest trends in the fields covered by the joint conferences: representation theory, integrability, entanglement, quantum groups, number theory, conformal geometry, quantum affine superalgebras, noncommutative geometry. Further, they present various mathematical results: on minuscule modules, symmetry breaking operators, Kashiwara crystals, meta-conformal invariance, the superintegrable Zernike system.

The interaction between geometry and theoretical physics has often been very fruitful. A highlight in this century was Einstein's creation of the theory of general relativity. Equally impressive was the recognition, starting from the work of Yang and Mills and culminating in the Weinberg-Salam theory of the electroweak interaction and quantum chromodynamics, that the fundamental interactions of elementary particles are governed by gauge fields, which in ma thematical terms are connections in principal fibre bundles. Theoretical physi cists became increasingly aware of the fact that the use of modern mathematical methods may be necessary in the treatment of problems of physical interest. Since some of these topics are covered at most summarily in the usual curricu lum, there is a need for extra-curricular efforts to provide an opportunity for learning these techniques and their physical applications. In this context we arranged a meeting at the Physikzentrum Bad Ronnef 12-16 February 1990 on the subject "Geometry and Theoretical Physics", in the series of physics schools organized by the German Physical Society. The participants were graduate students from German universities and research institutes. Since the meeting occurred only a short time after freedom of travel between East and West Germany became a reality, this was for many from the East the first opportunity to attend a scientific meeting in the West, and for many from the West the first chance to become personally acquainted with colleagues from the East.

Discourse On A New Method written by Mary Domski and has been published by Open Court Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with History categories.
Addressing a wide range of topics, from Newton to Post-Kuhnian philosophy of science, these essays critically examine themes that have been central to the influential work of philosopher Michael Friedman. Special focus is given to Friedman's revealing study of both history of science and philosophy in his work on Kant, Newton, Einstein, and other major figures. This interaction of history and philosophy is the subject of the editors' "manifesto" and serves to both explain and promote the essential ties between two disciplines usually regarded as unrelated.
