Don't just see the sights—get to know the people. Germany powerhouse of Europe and pillar of the Eurozone feels reassuringly familiar. However, despite superficial appearances, this is a country that operates very differently from the USA and Britain. German history is more than a thousand years old and the relatively new German nation-state encompasses an astonishing variety of cultural and regional differences. German society is also in a state of flux, as people respond to immigration and a tough economic climate, and traditional attitudes such as formality and rigid protocol are softening as German business globalizes. With chapters on core values and attitudes, and a practical business briefing, it is a valuable introduction to the German way of life. It tells you what treatment to expect, what pitfalls to avoid, and how to build rapport and credibility with this culturally rich and inventive people at the heart of Europe. Have a richer and more meaningful experience abroad through a better understanding of the local culture. Chapters on history, values, attitudes, and traditions will help you to better understand your hosts, while tips on etiquette and communicating will help you to navigate unfamiliar situations and avoid faux pas.

Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Tourism - Miscellaneous, grade: 1, University of Brighton, language: English, abstract: In times of globalisation the aspects of cultural diversity and cross cultural communication become more and more important. People have the possibility to travel across continents, meetings are organised all around the world. Therefore the knowledge of at least one foreign language is definitely an essential skill one should have. But nevertheless just translating a word or a sentence from one language into another does not guarantee a successful course of negotiation. According to Mattock (2003) the actual talk is just the tip of the iceberg. Instead the major and thus bottom layer is culture. (Mattock, 2003) Therefore international managers should be aware that transcultural competence can only be achieved by ‘being aware of cultural differences, respecting them and ultimately reconciling them’ (Trompenaars and Hampden-Turner, 1997). The first part of this essay will present general information about Slovenia and Germany. It will then highlight the major characteristics and differences between the business cultures of the two countries concentrating on the dimensions introduced by Trompenaars and Hofstede. (For definitions of culture and the dimensions see Appendix) The conclusion will highlight the major differences between the two business cultures and offer recommendations for German and Slovenian managers doing business with each other.

Seeing Hitler S Germany written by K. Semmens and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-03-23 with History categories.

Seeing Hitler's Germany is the first fully researched, wide-ranging study of commercial tourism under the swastika. The book demonstrates how effectively the Nazi regime coordinated all German tourism organizations. At the same time, it emphasizes the apparent 'normality' of many everyday tourist experiences after 1933. These certainly helped some Germans and many foreign visitors to overlook the regime's brutality. However, tourism also celebrated the most racist, chauvinist aspects of the 'new Germany', which in turn became a normal part of being a tourist under Hitler. While violence and terror have continued to dominate many recent studies of the Third Reich, this book takes a different view. By investigating a range of 'normal' experiences - such as taking a tour, visiting a popular sightseeing attraction, reading a guidebook or sending a postcard - Seeing Hitler's Germany deepens our understanding of the popular legitimization of Nazi rule.
