Als zentrales Erkenntnisorgan wird hier die Vernunft im engeren Sinne thematisiert. Während Sinnlichkeit und Verstand unsere Erkenntnis der Natur konstituieren, dient die Vernunft dieser als Regulativ, indem sie uns anleitet, ein Ganzes aller möglichen Erkenntnisse anzustreben. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) war ein deutscher Philosoph der Aufklärung. Kant zählt zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern der abendländischen Philosophie. Kant veröffentlichte 1783 die Prolegomena, die allgemeinverständlich in die kritische Philosophie einführen sollen.
