Non più sfondo, il paesaggio diviene lui stesso l'oggetto e l'effetto delle nostre azioni. Pur sottolineandone una costitutiva e originaria difficoltà: cosa significa costruire, disegnare, riprogettare un paesaggio? Risultato provvisorio di un immaginario territoriale, che continuamente sfugge all'oggettività della rappresentazione, il paesaggio rientra a pieno titolo nelle giurisdizioni del progetto. Pensarlo come contenitore è solo una forzata metafora, che corrisponde alla nostra volontà di riduzione del mondo ad immagini sulle quali operare. A differenza dell'opera architettonica il paesaggio non ha una struttura, un meccanismo indipendente dal suo ordinamento visivo: “non si dà qualcosa in cui avvenga il paesaggio: il paesaggio è assieme la struttura e il proprio contenuto”. Una radicale provvisorietà contraddistingue allora le azioni conoscitive e i dispositivi del progetto che ricercano criteri interpretativi, predispongono apparati operativi, sperimentano meccanismi di regolazione spaziale comune tra artificio e natura.
