Get Unstuck from Fundamentalism unravels the mystery behind the need to hold myths as literal truth and the need for certainty. Written in and laced with engaging Italian stories, it points beyond mere rejection of childhood upbringing to a deep spiritual shore that is there for all of us to find. Children live in a literal world where myths and reality are blurred such as the existence of Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy. Many of those beliefs are unraveled by the time you become an adult, but fundamentalism is that which remains locked into absolutism. It is as if all the answers and purpose of the world come from outside of yourself, and the stories if still held literally remain in charge of your thinking. Most aren't even aware of this. 30% of Americans hold fundamentalist beliefs, but only 9% call themselves a fundamentalist. Those who are unaware cannot realize that they live on the ends of strings that someone else pulls. Others live in reaction against their childhood literal beliefs and therefore shut themselves off from further spiritual growth.

Snap Out Of It written by Barry Bragg and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-03 with Religion categories.

In the short but powerful book Snap Out of It, author Barry Bragg invites you to discover that a questioning mind, an independent spirit, and a sense of humor are the holy trinity of spiritual sanity. An honest examination of religion takes us to a place of humility, not rigid dogma or superiority. We discover, at long last, that the Universe does not behave in a way that makes us comfortable, and, in fact, is bursting with unpredictability and diversity. Doubt is essential, for illusion and self-deception are the hallmarks of the human mind. With wishful thinking on one end, and paranoid delusion on the other, the ability to see through these products of human imagination takes us to safety and sanity. This book gives you the information and inspiration to resist the pressure to conform to "shoulds," either from religion or society. Refuse to pretend you "know" when you don't know. Stand tall and celebrate the gifts of your innate reason, intuition and individuality. If you walk a spiritual path, make sure it comes from the light of your own being, a spontaneous, personal, free-flowing, natural spirituality. Traditional religion tells us the word of God is true. However, if you begin with the idea that whatever is true is the word of God, and make that search for yourself, you're on the journey to inner freedom. May this book be a source of light and liberation, and, yes, laughter. Reclaim your spiritual sanity and integrity, and know that the true will set you free.

Spirituality And Emotional Intelligence written by Gilmore Crosby and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-17 with Business & Economics categories.

This book weaves together spirituality and a systemic version of emotional intelligence that incorporates Kurt Lewin’s social science and other sources. Emotional intelligence calls on us to be fully present “to the moment.” It calls on us to be appreciative of ourselves and our relationships. Likewise, a calm and compassionate presence is almost universally recognized as a spiritual way of being. In other words, the overwhelming majority of the world’s spiritual sources call on us to be emotionally intelligent and that link is explored with unique clarity in this simple yet powerful text. We are all reactive at times. Becoming more objective and less attached allows us to feel our feelings without being a prisoner to acting on them in habitual ways. From a more detached perspective, feelings are neither good nor bad, but simply clues as to how we are perceiving our environment, especially our social environment. This is especially important in terms of our relationships at work. Our perceptions about what people intend trigger our emotional reactions. Think about the difference when you perceive critical feedback as a sincere attempt to help or when you perceive it as an attack of some sort. Perception evokes different emotional responses. Objectivity about our own perception is even more important than objectivity about emotion, because the former usually precedes the later. Paradoxically, being detached allows one to appreciate and experience one’s emotions more fully. Recognizing emotion as part of your inner guidance system instead of as something dangerous that must be controlled or denied is freeing. The less emotion runs you, the more you can accept feeling what you feel. Emotion is a form of physical energy. Fighting your own feelings takes energy. Allowing the ebb and flow of emotion is essential to physical and emotional health and to accepting ourselves as we are.

Righteous Religion written by Kathleen Ritter and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-22 with Psychology categories.

Why are so many individuals discouraged, at spiritual dead ends, even when they are active participants in their churches? Righteous Religion exposes the authoritarian misuse of Christian teaching that often leaves its members ignored, chastised, or belittled. This new book offers hope for anyone who has struggled with disillusionment in the face of an unbending religious system. After unmasking a bewildering network of illusions that operate beneath the surface of Fundamentalism and dogmatic Catholicism, the authors help readers find their own voices of truth. This is a candid book that analyzes the grip of Fundamentalism and Catholicism on their respective followers, despite financial and sexual scandals, misuse of power and influence, apparent hypocrisy, and selective self-righteousness of these two religious systems.Using real life stories of ordinary people in ordinary churches, Righteous Religion demonstrates that the efforts involved in maintaining illusions are incompatible with claiming a personal spiritual voice. The authors discuss the relationship between the breakdown of erroneous notions and the growth that will involve readers in finding their own voice. From the stories presented, readers will see the journey progress from questioning previously unquestioned assumptions, reclaiming the best out of their religious traditions, and then transcending that which is no longer viable by grieving over illusions, learning to live with paradox, and transforming illusions into a new, valid, and spiritually personal religious truth. As readers begin the journey of finding their own spiritual voice, their experiences will be validated by the prose and stories in Righteous Religion. Those outside of Fundamentalism and Catholicism can begin to understand the practices of these religious groups through the authors’clear explanation of the dynamics and inner workings of creed bound Fundamentalism and Catholicism. This book has appeal to anyone--whether from within or outside religious tradition--who has questioned the grip of Fundamentalism and Catholicism on individuals.

A divorced virgin at twenty-five. Howard Mackert gave up everything he had ever known to escape from an arranged marriage and Mormon fundamentalism, only to find he had gone out of the frying pan and into the fire--with unseen scars that would take years to heal. As one of 31 children in a polygamist family, Howard Mackert's childhood was far from ordinary. Here, he tells his story of growing up as a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints and part of a household with three (and later four) mothers. But Howard's story doesn't end with his departure from FLDS. After his escape, he unintentionally landed in yet another fundamentalist environment, fuelled by a compulsion to find concrete answers to life's eternal questions. It was only by discovering the unconditional acceptance and grace of God that Howard was able to forgive the past, live a life of love, and embrace the mystery of faith--without a fundamentalist addiction to certainty.

Unafraid written by Benjamin L. Corey and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-07 with Religion categories.

The creator of the popular Formerly Fundie blog on Patheos explains how the "American Christianity" we are currently taught is actually a fear-saturated distortion of biblical faith. Benjamin L. Corey thought he was suffering a crisis of faith, but it turned out to be a spiritual awakening. Corey became aware that the constant fear of hell and judgment that defined his Christian faith was out of sync with the idea that God acts from love, and promises to deliver us from fear. In the wake of this realization came newfound insights—from reading the Bible to re-examining American life and the church's role in the wider world. Corey learned that what he had been taught was a distorted version of Christianity that was not only untrue but caused real spiritual harm. He also discovered that he wasn’t alone. Many Christians are yearning to distinguish between the Christianity that has become a rigid American civil religion and the authentic Christian faith embodied in Jesus. As he recounts his own spiritual journey, Corey offers a powerful and inspiring message of hope for every Christian increasingly frustrated with the church today. Do not be discouraged, he assures them. You do not need to give up your faith; you can rediscover the reality of a vibrant Christianity that delivers us from fear and inspires and guides us all today.
