Theory and practice with extensive examples from popular music and the author's own inimitable song catalogue, all linked to streaming media for a complete experience. Intended for Creatives and the pragmatically oriented. Experience the rush of immediate improvement. We spend thousands of hours learning how to accompany a song on an instrument and how to sing. How much time and effort and money do we put into learning how to write a compelling, effective lyric? How do we make the young girl cry and the bad boy buy? The book covers the theory and develops some rules--as Hector Barbosa says in Pirates of the Caribbean, "Guidelines" for you to apply to achieve effective lyrics. A Profound Method to Work with Dreams In research at the University of Chicago, Dr. Gendlin found that certain specific bodily responses can open up and lead to small steps of a new experience. These bodily responses can indicate the steps for interpreting a dream. Theories about dreams differ and give contradictory interpretations. Dr. Gendlin derives 16 questions from the many existing theories to aid you, the dreamer, in. the process of interpretation. In this book Dr. Gendlin teaches you to ask the questions so that your body can respond . You learn to recognize how it feels when a question is about to lead to a breakthrough. You learn to let the question complete itself so that the dream opens and you know without doubt what it is about. The first stage is learning what the dream is about. But this alone may not yet tell you anything you did not know before. The second stage is getting something new from the dream for your own development. The BIAS CONTROL solves what was, until now, an insurmountable problem: People could not interpret their own dreams because they always imposed their usual biases on them. The BIAS CONTROL shows you how to open yourself to a new step. Eugene T. Gendlin, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at the University of Chicago. He has written books and articles in philosophy and psychology. His work has been translated into more than seven languages. He was for many years the editor of Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, and Practice. In 1970 he was chosen by the Psychotherapy Division of the American Psychological Association for their first "Distinguished Professional Psychologist of the Year" Award.

THE TIME-HONOURED INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER, UPDATED AND WITH A NEW INTRODUCTION AND AFTERWORD, CELEBRATING THIRTY YEARS OF INFLUENCING THE WAY WE LIVE For the past three decades, Wherever You Go, There You Are has helped catalyse the explosion of interest in mindfulness around the world. While mindfulness is considered the heart of Buddhist meditation, its essence is universal and of deep practical benefit, potentially to all. In essence, mindfulness is about embodied wakefulness. Our minds are such that we are often more asleep than awake to the unique beauty and possibilities of each present moment. While it is in the nature of all our minds to default to autopilot and lose touch with the only time we actually have to live - to feel, to grow, to love, to learn, to give shape to things, to heal - our mind also holds the innate capacity to awaken to each moment. This book gives you a variety of ways to experiment with not missing your moments and take maximal advantage of them by tending what most needs tending to now. Given the myriad mega-challenges humanity and planet Earth are facing at this time, Wherever You Go, There You Are can provide both a personal refuge for meaning - making, healing and transformation, as well as a locus for collaborating with others to heal the suffering of the world.

A collection of pithy Buddhist slogans on how to approach everyday workplace stressors as valuable opportunities for growth and learning When we think of work, we often think of drudgery, frustration, and stress. For too many of us, work is the last place in our lives we expect to experience satisfaction, fulfillment, or spiritual growth. In this unique book, Michael Carroll—a meditation teacher, executive coach, and corporate director—shares Buddhist wisdom on how to transform the common hassles and anxieties of the workplace into valuable opportunities for heightened wisdom and enhanced effectiveness. Carroll shows us how life on the job—no matter what kind of work we do—can become one of the most engaging and fulfilling areas of our lives. At its heart, Awake at Work offers thirty-five principles that we can use throughout our day to revitalize our work as well as our understanding of ourselves and others. Carroll invites readers to contemplate these slogans and to use them on-the-spot, in the midst of work’s chaos, to develop clarity, wisdom, and inspiration. Along the way, Carroll presents a variety of techniques and insights to help us acknowledge work, with all its complications, as “a valuable invitation to fully live our lives.” In an engaging, accessible, and often humorous style, Awake at Work offers readers a path to rediscovering our natural sense of intelligence, confidence, and delight on the job.

He was a gluttonous man and when his blood came out it looked like the blood of a pig. That's a cruel thing to think, I know. He did it in a restaurant where I was having dinner with another man, another married man. Do you see how this is going? But I wasn't always that way. I am depraved. The Cambridge Workshops on Universal Access and Assistive Technology (CWUAAT) is one of the few gatherings where people interested in inclusive design, across different fields, including designers, computer scientists, engineers, architects, ergonomists, ethnographers, policymakers and user communities, meet, discuss, and collaborate. CWUAAT has also become an international workshop, representing diverse cultures including Portugal, Germany, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Australia, China, Norway, USA, Belgium, UK, and many more. The workshop has five main themes based on barriers identified in the developing field of design for inclusion: I Breaking Down Barriers between Disciplines II Breaking Down Barriers between Users, Designers and Developers III Removing Barriers to Usability, Accessibility and Inclusive Design IV Breaking Down Barriers between People with Impairments and Those without V Breaking Down Barriers between Research and Policy-making In the context of developing demographic changes leading to greater numbers of older people and people living with impairments, the general field of inclusive design research strives to relate the capabilities of the population to the design of products, services, and spaces. CWUAAT has always had a successful multidisciplinary focus, but if genuine transdisciplinary fields are to evolve from this, the final barriers to integrated research must be identified and characterised. Only then will benefits be realised in an inclusive society. Barriers do not arise from impairments themselves, but instead, are erected by humans, who often have not considered a greater variation in sensory, cognitive and physical user capabilities. Barriers are not only technical or architectural, but they also exist between different communities of professionals. Our continual goal with the CWUAAT workshop series is to break down barriers in technical, physical, and architectural design, as well as barriers between different professional communities.
