Standard Basque written by Rudolf P.G. De Rijk and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-29 with Foreign Language Study categories.

The first modern pedagogically oriented reference to the grammar of standard Basque (Euskara Batua), in two parts: Part 1 presents detailed grammar lessons, Part 2 glosses and supplementary materials. A pre-Indo-European language with no known relatives, the Basque language survives in the Basque region of Spain and France, with about half a million native or near-native speakers. The local diversity of the language, with no fewer than eight different dialects, has hindered the development of a supradialectical written tradition. Twentieth-century Basque scholars recognized that the introduction of a standard language for written communication was vital for the continued existence of Basque, and the Euskaltzaindia, the Royal Academy of the Basque Language, has supervised the creation of a new shared form, Euskara Batua (“Unified Basque”), to be used as a written standard. Standard Basque: A Progressive Grammar is the first modern pedagogically oriented reference grammar in English for this new standard language. It guides the reader progressively through 33 chapters covering topics that range from orthography and pronunciation to case endings, verb forms, ergativity, and the antipassive and allocutive forms. In addition to information on the various dialects, the book includes thousands of example sentences drawn from Basque literature and extensive vocabulary listings. Most chapters conclude with exercises. Part 1 covers the grammar and Part 2 contains glosses for the example sentences and indexes. This book was prepared for publication after the author's death by Virginia de Rijk-Chan with Armand De Coene and Fleur Veraart and the assistance of linguists at Cornell University, Leiden University, and the University of the Basque Country. The glosses and supplementary material in Part 2 were prepared by Armand De Coene.

Emotions In Yiddish Ghetto Diaries written by Amy Simon and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-16 with History categories.

This book uses an empathic reading of Yiddish diarists’ feelings, evaluations, and assessments about persecutors in the Warsaw, Lodz, and Vilna ghettos to present an emotional history of persecution in the Nazi ghettos. It re-centers the daily experiences of psychological and physical violence that made up ghetto life and that ultimately led victims to use their diaries as a place of agency to question and attempt to maintain their own beliefs in pre-war Jewish and Enlightenment ethics and morality. Holocaust scholars and students, as well as people interested in personal narratives, interpersonal relations, and the problem of dehumanization during the Holocaust will find this study particularly thought-provoking. Essentially, this book highlights the benefits of reading with empathy and paying attention to emotions for understanding the experiences of people in the past, especially those facing tragedy and trauma.

"Some people think I didn't have a childhood, as they think I was born on a cold and wet Saturday morning at the age of 23 in the front bar of The Lord Forrest Hotel. I did in fact have a childhood, but it was spent on a wheat farm, but I hated dirt and country music so as soon I was old enough I left the farm. I ended up in a country city doing a trade ( motor mechanic ) for four years. After I had my trade papers in my hand I was out of there and down to the big smoke, a city of millions of people. I owe that city a lot as it turned me from a country youth into a man. I discovered many things, including motorcycles, race cars, the ocean, sailing and diving and also bookshops. I hated school with a passion, but I am thankful to my teachers who taught me how to read. The bookshops in that big city were amazing, every Saturday morning would see me on a bus heading into the city and I would comb the bookshops. Those bookshops were a turning point in my life that put me on a very different road to the farm boy I was supposed to be. From there I wandered around the country and finally landed a job in South America working for an American company. South America, it's people and the crazy guys I worked with was another turning point in my life. In my travels I noticed people seemed to live by a script, a script for life. Some poor souls had been given a bad script but they still lived by it, I worked out who gave them these scripts, good or bad. I discovered one's life script is vital in how we live our lives. One can rewrite one's script, but your belief system will try to stop you from changing your script. Firstly you have to learn how to over come your belief system, and then rewrite your script."
