Dies soll Gegenstand dieser Arbeit sein. Die Hypothese dieser Arbeit verfolgt dabei den Ansatz, dass, Volksparteien im traditionellen Sinn nicht mehr existieren, da sich die politische Landschaft geändert hat. Ob jedoch, gegenteilig dieser Aussage, Parteien doch als Volksparteien betrachtet werden können, wird Aufgabe des Hauptteils sein.

In dieser Studie wird analysiert, welche Leitbilder bezuglich der weltpolitischen Rolle der Europaischen Union die beiden groaen deutschen Volksparteien vom Ende des Ost-West-Konflikts bis zum Vorabend des Irak-Krieges im Bundestagswahlkampf 2002 entwickelt haben. Die Untersuchung, die eine wichtige Lucke in der europapolitischen Parteienforschung schlieat, zeigt, dass beide Parteien die fur die Zukunft des "Friedensprojekts Europa" so wichtige Frage nach der Rolle der EU als Akteur im internationalen System unterschiedlich beantworten.
