Living and working with giftedness is not always easy - either for the gifted themselves or for the people around them. Potentially, gifted people are original, creative, full of vitality, passionate and constructive employees. They are very valuable, both in their jobs and in society. But not all gifted people succeed in making their talents visible. They lose track and get trapped in their own pitfalls. A potentially powerfully creative personality without clear direction may best be compared to an unguided missile. Someone who cannot be coached, cannot collaborate or communicate, a know-it-all, an antisocial, elusive person. Among colleagues and employers (and among partners and friends) this behavior creates irritation, anxiety and uncertainty. Talents remain hidden and a vicious cycle starts. Gifted people lose direction in life and work, and lose their way. What a waste of all that talent.... ! This book presents eleven case studies of gifted adults, each trying to find his or her own way after losing direction. Often a trigger from the environment was needed for them to start their individual voyages of discovery. The authors occupational physician and psychologist Noks Nauta and psychologist Sieuwke Ronner take their examples from their personal and professional experiences. In addition to these case histories, which gifted people often recognize from their own experiences and which they identify with sometimes smiling, sometimes crying the authors also offer concrete tools that may help gifted people to find their talents and put them to good use. Employers, occupational and insurance physicians, psychologists, career coaches, human resource managers and others who come into contact with gifted employees, can also benefit from this book. The goal is to help recognize talent, even when it is hidden, acknowledge people's gifts and help the gifted and their talents to grow and flourish."

Psychosocial Health Work And Language written by Stéphanie Cassilde and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-13 with Social Science categories.

This volume deals with the construction of categorizations of health at work on the basis of individuals’ perceptions and analyses of the psychosocial health effects at their work. The volume approaches the subject from the point of view of those who have experienced psychosocial risks at work, either by being under constraints themselves or by being witness to such constraints. Each chapter sheds light on their representations by examining how the individuals label these constraints. The book compares official categorizations of psychosocial health effects of work to unofficial categorizations, built or expressed. It shows how taking into account subjective narratives may reinforce existing strategies. By giving a central place to language in the analysis of the representations of psychosocial health at work, the volume provides additional information about the various prevention and coping strategies that can be used for dealing with the issue. Beyond some international comparisons, the book covers various national case studies, including in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chechnya, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, and Russia.

"A mediocre employee in your group is more than one mediocre employee--he or she is a human multiplier-effect, to the downside. If you have even one mediocre employee, you have announced to the world that mediocrity is okay by you, while conceding that you are willing to slow the entire group for the sake of the worst employee. Thus, allowing that one person to stay is not being kind or generous; it's dangerous. It's dangerous for the individual, who knows that, at some level, he or she is doing second-rate work, and who you are locking into mediocrity, and it is dangerous for the group, which is slowed and distracted." --from (Great) Employees Only "Dauten will challenge every preconceived notion you have about making your career take off." --Harvey Mackay, author of Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive "You'll rediscover the joy that's missing in your career, your coworkers, and yourself." --Ken Elkins, former president and CEO, Pulitzer Broadcasting Company

Back in the Garden, work was fun. Yet, in today’s fallen world, joy and work are rarely used in the same sentence. But God really does intend for us to find joy in our work. Join Raymond Bakke, Brad Smith, and Bill Hendricks as they explore what the Bible says about the purpose of business and our right to a joyful workplace. No matter where you spend those 50 or 60 hours during the week—whether it’s in business, government, or the nonprofit sector; in church, at home, or anywhere else—God intends for you to find joy in your work. This 10-week study accompanies Joy at Work, a book by Dennis W. Bakke, co-founder and CEO of AES, a worldwide energy giant with 40,000 employees in 31 countries. Shaped by his faith, Bakke recounts his quest to create the most fun workplace ever—using principles established in the Garden. This study provides the biblical map that he used as he charted and led that journey. Starting with the Genesis record of creation and moving through Revelation, this Bible study supplements Joy at Work with: Biblical readings that unveil the principles behind each chapter in Joy at Work A synthesis of theological principles Reflective questions to prepare readers for small-group discussion Questions for small-group discussion Guidelines for immediate and long-term application for business and nonprofit leaders at all levels of corporations and organizations.
