Qualcuno scrisse in arabo, sulla sua tomba: «Qui giace il nostro profeta».Kahlil Gibrannacque nel 1883 a Bisharri, nel Libano settentrionale, e morì nel 1931 a New York. Fu poeta, filosofo, pittore. La sua fama si diffuse ben al di là del vicino Oriente: le sue poesie furono tradotte in più di venti lingue e le sue opere furono esposte nelle più importanti gallerie di tutto il mondo. Trascorse gli ultimi vent’anni di vita in America, dove ben presto divenne un maestro e un mito per i milioni di giovani che ne leggevano gli scritti. I suoi libri, considerati un vero “breviario mistico”, continuano a entusiasmare un vasto pubblico, alimentando una sorta di “culto” che non accenna a spegnersi.
