Perché nella Bibbia troviamo la frase “facciamo l’uomo a nostra immagine e somiglianza”? Il termine originario ebraico si riferisce agli Elohim, un plurale che indica le “divinità” e non un dio monoteistico. Una nuova interpretazione della Bibbia rivela il segreto più antico della Storia. Se la Bibbia viene letta in maniera letterale, allora tutto diventa comprensibile e semplice. Diversamente da noi contemporanei, gli autori biblici non sentivano la necessità di supportare una prospettiva teologica monoteistica ben precisa, tantomeno un'autorità morale o un ordine religioso. Il ritratto finale che ne emergerà rivelerà l'immagine di un personaggio completamente diverso da quello al quale molti dei nostri lettori sono abituati. La Bibbia, le mistificazioni e le traduzioni errate A partire dalla necessità di rendere i testi biblici coerenti con la concezione monoteistica del Dio del mondo Occidentale, sono state fatte lunga serie di vere e proprie falsificazioni e traduzioni errate. In luce di queste ultime, il primo innocentissimo errore di battitura che scoprii ormai venticinque anni fa sembra realmente una "pagliuzza nell'occhio del fratello". In questo libro parlo non solo di pagliuzze, ma di veri e propri tronchi che sono rimasti nei nostri di occhi per centinaia, anzi migliaia di anni: tanto a lungo da indurci ad ignorare la nostra stessa cecità. Dio o Dèi? In questo libro mi concentro sull'identità e sulla personalità di Yahweh e sul significato della parola "Elohim". Quando leggiamo il termine "Dio" nella Bibbia, generalmente esso proviene dalla parola ebraica "Elohim". Tuttavia, almeno ai tempi in cui lavoravo per le Edizioni San Paolo, il termine "Elohim" non veniva affatto tradotto nelle edizioni della Bibbia interlineare che preparammo per gli studiosi e per le università. Nelle varie edizioni della Bibbia rivolte al grande pubblico, al contrario, lo stesso termine viene tradotto con "Dio". Di conseguenza laddove i lettori leggono "Dio" e, comprensibilmente, intendono che quella fosse l'intenzione degli autori biblici, gli studiosi leggono la parola "Elohim". Questa discrepanza è a dir poco un campanello d'allarme per il traduttore imparziale e libero da preconcetti.
