Global Women Leaders: Studies in Feminist Political Rhetoric demonstrates the ways in which women have used political rhetoric and political discourse to provide leadership, or assert their right to leadership, on a global level. This collection fits into the robust research area of international political women and their use of language in gaining and maintaining political power. It casts a wider net in terms of discussing women’s efforts to assert and preserve their roles of authority, particularly when their audiences may perceive their authority as illegitimate due to gender. Chapters dedicated to Elizabeth II and Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser discuss the more traditional ways in which women leaders use language to construct political power. Other chapters focus on women who serve as political activists, either individually or as part of a group, including Aasma Mahfouz of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and the women who help direct United Nations policy through their speeches in the General Assembly. Global Women Leaders will appeal to scholars of political communication and international rhetoric.

This text offers a comprehensive, up-to-date view of the global leadership field since the publication of the third edition of this volume in 2018. Focusing on leading across cultural, economic, social, national, and political boundaries simultaneously, Global Leadership: Research, Practice, and Development (fourth edition) presents an in-depth summary of the field’s past and latest studies and practices in a succinct and engaging style that helps both managers and students grasp the complexities of global leadership. The conceptual flow of the book follows the same pattern as the third edition. Users of previous editions will notice that the structure of the last edition has been retained, but each chapter has been updated, where relevant, with coverage of seminal research that has occurred in the field since the publication of the last edition of the book. Many of the tables remain but have been revised and updated to reflect the current state of research in the field. We believe this approach will be helpful to instructors who use Global Leadership: Research, Practice, and Development as a textbook as they will not have to significantly revise their lesson plans but rather can straightforwardly update them with new information from the existing chapters within their course designs. Importantly, Global Leadership: Research, Practice, and Development is also a valuable guide for executives and managers who work in the global context, graduate students of global leadership, international business, and general leadership classes, as well as for scholars and managers seeking a thorough understanding of the current research literature. PowerPoint slides and a list of suggested cases are available to further assist instructors.

Global Political Leadership explores contemporary shifts in leadership, and the related leadership crisis, in the global world. Globalization is now perceived as a threatening and hostile force, with many of its advocates and political supporters turning away from it, but its processes cannot be reversed. New powers emerge, old ones re-emerge, and uncertainty about the future global order is increasing. This book tells the inside stories of global power games and asks important questions about the leadership crisis in the western world. The author provides an interpretative framework for contemporary shifts within the western political sphere based on the concept of global leadership. This framework presents the nature of the transformation caused by global processes, as part of which force and coercion have ceased to be the main modus operandi of the international realm. The issue of global political leadership has often been neglected in international relations literature, while being widely exploited by managerial and organizational studies. However, all social organizations have ‘gone global’ within the last several decades; they are more interconnected and more dependent on global processes, so the question of effective leadership strategies matching these new realities is highly necessary, even – or especially – at a time when globalization is no longer seen as a leading political programme. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of global affairs, politics and international relations, leadership and development, and diplomatic studies. The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Social media has played a central role in the digital era for almost a century, influencing almost all aspects of life. The use of social media in warfare is threatening not only one country but the whole global community, is a recent development. The famous speech by Abu Muhammad al-Adnani on social media inspired the bloody month of Ramadan in 2016 and showed the deadly power of social media inspired attacks and what the Islamic State is capable of achieving. Although the terrorist group has lost territory over the last few weeks of combat both in Syria and Iraq, and is on the edge of losing their main capital Mosul, IS still remains a hybrid threat. Consisting of military powers and an unmatched affinity of using social media as a cyber-war weapon, IS will continue to be a severe danger to the global community. This book aims to foster a deeper understanding of the use of social media for recruiting efforts by the so-called Islamic State (IS), and to analyse its propaganda methods in order to develop possible countermeasures. A special focus will be put on the method of recruitment of young Western foreign fighters. These individuals are the easiest to recruit for ISIS and pose the greatest risk to the global community, especially in regards to home grown terrorism and so-called lone wolf attacks. Since this area of research is very new and quickly evolving, the field still needs extensive research. It is difficult to analyse the use of social media content by the Islamic State due to limited information access and flow (encryption, propaganda, verification and inconsistency). The Islamic State is a military threat on the battleground as well as a potential cyber threat for the international community. Despite these challenging circumstances, this book will provide a new theoretical model based on the marketing model of a customer journey in connection with the main principles of storytelling. Ultimately, this research work will try to provide experts with a new and modern approach of analysis as a base for possible counter measures to weaken and combat the current threat posed by the Islamic State. Social media are digital media and methods (cf. social software) that enable users to network on the Internet, i.e. to exchange information with one another and to create and distribute media content individually or in a defined community or openly in society. The term "social media" also serves to describe a new expectation of communication and is always used in the plural to distinguish it from the term medium for a printed work or a broadcast channel. This is intended to signal that it is more than just individual media or channels.Social interactions and collaborative writing (sometimes referred to as "collaboration" in reference to the English term) in social media are becoming increasingly important and are transforming media monologues (one to many). They can also support the rapid dissemination of knowledge, opinions and other information. In contrast to traditional mass media, there is little or no social divide between sender and recipient (sender-receiver model). Text, images, audio or video are used as means of communication. The joint creation, editing and distribution of content, supported by interactive applications, up to viewing, reading and understanding, is also emphasized by the term Web 2.0.
