Business and employee management are key subjects in business administration. For decades, actually for centuries, there has been a discussion about how effective leadership of people or employees can be realized. It has always been a major concern within market-based economic systems to learn how its products and services should be designed in order to generate consumer demand. That the discussion about business and employee management is more relevant than ever is linked to the fact that leadership situations are influenced by a variety of external factors. They include, in particular, political, cultural, social, demographic, economic, and technological developments. It is therefore required for business and employee management to be adapted to those external framework conditions on a permanent basis. In former times, the assumption in mainstream leadership research was that leadership success relied on specific personal characteristics. Later on, the prevailing view was that the decisive factors in employee management lied in specific leadership behavior or leadership styles. Today's research on leadership is dominated by situation-oriented approaches, providing for specific leadership concepts for specific organizational and employee-related structures. The present thesis is an attempt to bundle a variety of approaches to leadership with the aim of providing an overarching framework for concepts of a similar nature. Therefore, the leadership concept to be developed in what follows is to be characterized by the principles of holism and sustainability. The first step is to present the fundamentals of leadership and management in order to introduce key terms and concepts and provide an overview of the research on leadership. Chapter 3 deals with separately displaying the business and employee management approaches of various management pioneers, distinguishing between early and con-temporary pioneers. Each approach is presented in consideration of its key elements, its strengths and opportunities, as well as its weaknesses and limitations. The fourth chapter, finally, is devoted to developing a holistic and sustainable leader-ship concept.

Die Führung von Unternehmen und Mitarbeitern ist ein zentrales Thema in der Betriebswirtschaftslehre. Seit Jahrzehnten und streng genommen seit Jahrhunderten findet eine Diskussion darüber statt, wie sich Menschen bzw. Mitarbeiter effektiv führen lassen. Innerhalb von marktwirtschaftlichen Wirtschaftssystemen ist es seit jeher bedeutsam, wie die eigenen Produkte und Dienstleistungen gestaltet werden können, damit sie von den Verbrauchern nachgefragt werden. Dass die Debatte um Unternehmens- und Mitarbeiterführung mehr denn je präsent ist, steht offensichtlich damit in Verbindung, dass die Führungssituation in Unternehmen von einer Vielzahl an externen Einflüssen beeinflusst wird. Hierzu gehören insbesondere politische, kulturelle, soziale, demografische, ökonomische und technologische Entwicklungen. Dementsprechend muss die Unternehmens- und Mitarbeiterführung permanent an die externen Rahmenbedingungen angepasst werden. In früheren Zeiten war der Mainstream innerhalb der Führungsforschung durch die Annahme geprägt, dass für den Führungserfolg bestimmte Charaktereigenschaften erforderlich sind. Später war die Ansicht vorherrschend, dass ein bestimmtes Führungsverhalten respektive Führungsstile darüber entscheiden, wie sich Mitarbeiter führen lassen. Heutzutage dominieren situative Ansätze in der Führungsforschung, die spezielle Führungskonzepte für spezifische Organisations- und Mitarbeiterstrukturen vorsehen. Im vorliegenden Werk wird der Versuch unternommen, eine Vielzahl an Führungsansätzen zu bündeln, wobei es gilt, eine Klammer für ähnlich ausgerichtete Konzepte zu bilden. Die zu erstellende Führungskonzeption soll dabei durch die Prinzipien der Ganzheitlichkeit und Nachhaltigkeit gekennzeichnet sein. Im Folgenden werden zunächst die Grundlagen zu Führung und Leadership erörtert. Dabei werden die zentralen Begrifflichkeiten erörtert sowie ein Überblick über die Führungsforschung gegeben. In Kapitel 3 werden dann die Unternehmens- und Mitarbeiterführungskonzepte verschiedener Management-Vordenker aufgeführt. In diesem Kontext wird zwischen klassischen und zeitgenössischen Vordenkern unterschieden. Es werden jeweils die zentralen Kennzeichen ihres Ansatzes dargelegt, wobei zusätzlich die Stärken bzw. Chancen sowie die Schwächen bzw. Risiken herausgearbeitet werden. Im vierten Kapitel wird dann eine ganzheitliche und nachhaltige Führungskonzeption entwickelt.

Over the past decade and a half, Germany has experienced a period of political and cultural turbulence which many have attributed to the combined challenges of unification and globalisation. In response to growing exposure to global markets, politics and migration debates about identity have increasingly been renationalised. At the same time, there has been a notable reappraisal in Germany (and in German Studies) of the regional and global as spaces for the construction of identity. This volume sets out to explore these complex and at times contradictory trends, focusing in particular on developments in Germany since the 1970s, although chapters treating earlier periods are also included. The volume brings together British, Irish, German, Canadian and American scholars working in the field, and resulted from a conference organised by Women in German Studies at the University of Bath. The first section is primarily concerned with the specifically German concept of locality known as Heimat and its changing relationship with the global. Included are explorations of the writings of Kafka, Bachmann, Johnson, Sell, Wolf, Brinkmann and Jelinek amongst others as well as films by Schlöndorff and Steyerl. The second section focuses on the impact of the global on institutions and rituals such as commemoration, memorialisation, and architecture, which have traditionally been influential in shaping national self-images. Overall, this volume concludes that the nature of the relationship to the local has fundamentally changed under the impact of globalisation.
