Global Flyer written by Brian Milton and has been published by New European Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-11-18 with Aeronautics categories.

In 1998 Brian Milton and fellow pilot Keith Reynolds, who abandoned the flight, attempted to fly a single-engine micro light around the world in eighty days. Their flight aboard GT Global Flyer retraces as far as possible the route taken by Phileas Fogg in Jules Verne's classic story. They flew what is virtually no more than a hang glider with a motorbike slung underneath, the smallest and lightest aircraft ever to attempt such a hazardous journey. Leaving London and passing over Europe, Milton and Reynolds flew to the Middle East and onwards through China, Japan and into Russia. Crossing the Pacific, they reached Alaska and flew through Canada and the USA, before going to Greenland and Iceland, then Scotland and finally back to London. Global Flyer is Brian Milton's account of this incredible journey and of the hazards and dangers which he and Reynolds had to overcome - ranging from engine failure and atrocious weather conditions to being shot at by Syrian fighters. This is a story of flying in the face of adversity, of a constant battle against time and the elements and of overcoming obstacles and challenges that even Phileas Fogg did not have to contend with.

Aircraft Design written by Mohammad H. Sadraey and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-20 with Technology & Engineering categories.

A comprehensive approach to the air vehicle design process using the principles of systems engineering Due to the high cost and the risks associated with development, complex aircraft systems have become a prime candidate for the adoption of systems engineering methodologies. This book presents the entire process of aircraft design based on a systems engineering approach from conceptual design phase, through to preliminary design phase and to detail design phase. Presenting in one volume the methodologies behind aircraft design, this book covers the components and the issues affected by design procedures. The basic topics that are essential to the process, such as aerodynamics, flight stability and control, aero-structure, and aircraft performance are reviewed in various chapters where required. Based on these fundamentals and design requirements, the author explains the design process in a holistic manner to emphasise the integration of the individual components into the overall design. Throughout the book the various design options are considered and weighed against each other, to give readers a practical understanding of the process overall. Readers with knowledge of the fundamental concepts of aerodynamics, propulsion, aero-structure, and flight dynamics will find this book ideal to progress towards the next stage in their understanding of the topic. Furthermore, the broad variety of design techniques covered ensures that readers have the freedom and flexibility to satisfy the design requirements when approaching real-world projects. Key features: • Provides full coverage of the design aspects of an air vehicle including: aeronautical concepts, design techniques and design flowcharts • Features end of chapter problems to reinforce the learning process as well as fully solved design examples at component level • Includes fundamental explanations for aeronautical engineering students and practicing engineers • Features a solutions manual to sample questions on the book’s companion website Companion website - www.wiley.com/go/sadraey

Around The World Flights written by Patrick M. Stinson and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-12 with Transportation categories.

Since Wilbur and Orville Wright's first machine-powered flight, adventurers have pondered the prospect of flying around the world. Though in the early 20th century the idea seemed as plausible as traveling to Mars, aviators made their first attempts in the wake of World War I and have never looked back. This history of around-the-world flights explores the endeavor, starting with the first tentative journeys that allowed changing aircraft en route due to expected breakdowns. Once flying machines demonstrated reliable performance over global distances, a period of one-upmanship emerged, with each new venture striving to outdo the previous one. Today, even with international air travel having become routine, aviators strive to set records, now using unconventional aircraft and fuel sources. Paying tribute to the supporting personnel as well as to the flight captains at the center of attention, this work celebrates aviation's continued spirit of adventure.
