A widely respected legal scholar, Islamist activist, and renowned host of al-Jazeera's most popular religious program, Sharia and Life, Yusuf al-Qaradawi is an extremely controversial figure in contemporary Islamism. When he was a young man, Qaradawi attended a lecture by Hassan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, and immediately joined the organization's youth wing. After earning his degree in theology at al-Azhar University in Cairo, Qaradawi settled in Qatar, where he played a pivotal role in establishing a system of Islamic higher education. When the Muslim Brotherhood was forced underground in the 1960s, Qaradawi eschewed a formal position with the movement, opting instead to pursue a career as a major writer and ideologist of contemporary Islamist thought. Beginning in the mid-1970s, Qaradawi became one of a handful of Islamist ulama (Muslim scholars) who were accepted as authorities on doctrinal and political matters, both by Islamists and within the wider Islamic resurgence. Bettina Gräf and Jakob Skovgaard-Petersen provide the first book-length treatment of Yusuf al-Qaradawi in English. Since the 1990s, Qaradawi has cleverly exploited new media to reach a global audience. He was one of the first Sunni scholars to launch his own Web site and is heavily involved with Islam Online. Having just celebrated the ten year anniversary of Sharia and Life, Qaradawi is unquestionably the most important Sunni religious figure in the world today, and these essays initiate readers into his immensely influential speeches and thought.

Causes and Remedies of the Recent Financial Crisis From an Islamic Perspective As the leading authority on modern Islamic finance in the world today, no one was better qualified to speak for Islam at the annual World Economic Forum following the global financial crisis in 2010. In his address, Mufti Taqi Usmani pointed out that the so-called crisis only came about when it knocked at the doors of the wealthy.’ Otherwise, as Mufti Usmani astutely points out, the true crisis is ongoing and unless fundamental changes are made to the worlds economic system, that crisis will continue. In the pages of this slim volume, the reader will find a concise study of the fundamental flaws in the global economic system, and the eternal principles articulated by the Shariah of Islam that point to a solution. – Yusuf Talal DeLorenzo, Shariah Consultant to Global Financial Institutions Mufti Taqi's paper, written in the context of global financial crisis, calls for universal change in our attitude toward the treatment of money and the role of financial system in our lives. His is a timely call for overhauling the economic system based on values and principles. A must read for all who are concerned about the current affairs of our financial system. – Nazim Ali, Director, Islamic Finance Project, Harvard Law School Harvard University

Scholars from various disciplines worked together to present the first interdisciplinary book to address the issue of Islam, secularism and globalization. The book has a clear structure which represents its interdisciplinary approach: the first section addresses the philosophical and historical discussion about Islam and secularism; the second section discusses the topic from an ethnographical and social anthropological viewpoint; and the final section addresses Islam, secularism and globalization from a political viewpoint. This unique collection not only offers innovative research and new material, it also provides empirical examples and theoretical debates, and could therefore also be used as a textbook for courses on Islam, globalization, anthropology, politics, sociology and law.

A family is purposed to raise future generations. This basic unit of society is destroyed in the West and as a result it faces multiplicity of problems and declining populations. The root cause of problems is secularism, which started at the Enlightenment and pervades all state and public institutions; and is fervently propagated by the mainstream media. Contemporary research shows that faith is intimately tied to families, fertility, and growth. And it is the lack of faith that is responsible for declining Western populations. World demographic surveys project that Islam and Muslims will outgrow all others by 2070. Surveys by the Pew Research Center also acknowledge that Muslims "are deeply committed to their faith and want its teachings to shape not only their personal lives but also their societies and politics." . Islam considers family the basic institution of Islamic society, and aims at reforming the individual and society at its family. Stable families result from comprehensive union of a man and woman, and considerate of their ethical and moral wellbeing are committed to raising God-conscientious generations as representatives of God on earth and accountable to Him here and in the Hereafter. . Muslims were a great world power for a thousand years but then weakened and were colonialized by the Western powers. Unfortunately, the United States in its hegemonic agenda supports the corrupt authoritarian regimes that are opposed to democracy and human rights, as outlined by American Muslims in their letters to presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. . Muslims are faced with various encumbrances due to Islamophobia, stereotyping them all for crimes of a few, the prevailing U.S. led wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the "Global War on Terrorism." The U.S. led wars have caused killing of thousands of civilians, including women and children, and devastation of land and economies of the countries invaded. The wars have cost America not only in soldiers killed but in treating suffering war veterans that will continue into the future. Billions of dollars are wasted in anti-terrorism strategies chasing 'ghosts', which could have been otherwise used to save the lives of Americans, as pointed out by John Mueller, and others. . Islam holds hold human life sacred, and categorically prohibits killing innocent persons. The Pew polls have confirmed that Muslims worldwide condemn terrorism by the extremists, such as ISIS. Studies funded by the U.S. Homeland Security and other organizations show the "War on Terrorism" has caused increased terrorism. . American Muslims organizations from their get-go have been actively involved in forming coalitions with other faith communities. As such, the Muslim community in America serves as a model community involved with people of faith. They serve the sick and needy and are among the first responders during disasters. . Thus Americans of all persuasions came out in opposition to President Donald Trump when he issued a ban on Muslims traveling to the United States. And leaders of all faiths rebuked Republicans and Trump, and stood with Muslims as their 'siblings-in-faith.' . Muslims the world over have become active working to root out corruption and uplift their communities. They firmly believe that through dedication and commitment they would regain their position of honor and live in cordiality with each other working for the causes of justice, peace, and welfare for the entire humankind. .

Icon Of Evil written by David Dalin and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-12 with Religion categories.

A chilling, fascinating, and nearly forgotten historical figure is resurrected in this riveting work that links the fascism of the last century with the terrorism of our own. Written with vigor and extraordinary access to primary sources in several languages, Icon of Evil is the definitive account of the man who, during World War II, was called "the fuhrer of the Arab world" and whose ugly legacy lives on today. With new and disturbing details, David G. Dalin and John F. Rothmann show how al -Husseini ingratiated himself with his hero, Adolf Hitler, becoming, with his blond hair and blue eyes, an "honorary Aryan" while dreaming of being installed as Nazi leader of the Middle East. Al-Husseini would later recruit more than 100,000 Muslims in Europe to fight in divisions of the Waffen- SS, and obstruct negotiations with the Allies that might have allowed four thousand Jewish children to escape to Palestine. Some believe that al-Husseini even inspired Hitler to implement the Final Solution. At war's end, al-Husseini escaped indictment at Nuremberg and was harbored in France. Icon of Evil chronicles al-Husseini's postwar relationships with such influential Islamic figures as the radical theoretician Sayyid Qutb and Saddam Hussein's powerful uncle General Khairallah Talfah and his crucial mentoring of the young Yasser Ararat. Finally, it provides compelling evidence that al-Husseini's actions and writings serve as inspirations today to the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations pledged to destroy Israel and the United States.

The New Muslim Brotherhood In The West written by Lorenzo Vidino and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-25 with Political Science categories.

In Europe and North America, networks tracing their origins back to the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist movements have rapidly evolved into multifunctional and richly funded organizations competing to become the major representatives of Western Muslim communities and government interlocutors. Some analysts and policy makers see these organizations as positive forces encouraging integration. Others cast them as modern-day Trojan horses, feigning moderation while radicalizing Western Muslims. Lorenzo Vidino brokers a third, more informed view. Drawing on more than a decade of research on political Islam in the West, he keenly analyzes a controversial movement that still remains relatively unknown. Conducting in-depth interviews on four continents and sourcing documents in ten languages, Vidino shares the history, methods, attitudes, and goals of the Western Brothers, as well as their phenomenal growth. He then flips the perspective, examining the response to these groups by Western governments, specifically those of Great Britain, Germany, and the United States. Highly informed and thoughtfully presented, Vidino's research sheds light on a critical juncture in Muslim-Western relations.

Islam In Global Politics written by Bassam Tibi and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-12 with Political Science categories.

Reaching beyond traditionally politicised scholarship to provide a unique perspective on the place of religion and culture in global and local politics, this book examines the impact of Islam on 'civilizational' relations between different groups and polities. Bassam Tibi takes a highly original approach to the topic of religion in world politics, exploring the place of Islam in society and its frequent distortion in world politics to the more radical Islamism. Looking at how this becomes an immediate source of tension and conflict between the secular and the religious, Tibi rejects the 'clash of civilizations' theory and argues for the revival of Islamic humanism to help bridge the gap. Chapters expand on: inter-civilizational conflict in global politics dialogue between religious and secular, East and West western concepts of Islamism euro-Islam and the Islamic diaspora in Europe Islamic humanism as a tool for bridging civilizations. Shedding new light on the highly topical subject of Islam in politics and society, this book is an essential read for scholars and students of international politics, Islamic studies and conflict resolution.
