This book explores the closely related dynamics of globalization, hegemony and resistance movements in the modern world. Complimented by dramatic explorations of the new trans-border resistance movements, from the contemporary labor movement to the resurgence of nationalism, this book moves beyond the traditional focus on cycles of rise and decline of great powers to asses the pressing questions at the intersection of contemporary globalizations and hegemonic rise, decline and resurgence of civilizations. Moreover, the book provides a compelling analysis of the role of contemporary globalization in the resurgence of Islamic activism across the globe and the challenges this poses for traditional theories of modernity and global social movements. "Geopolitical Economy traces the historical evolution of today's multi- polar world, as it emerges from the dust of the financial and economic crisis. Radhika Desai offers a radical critique of the theories of U.S. hegemony, globalization and empire which dominate academic international political economy and international relations, revealing their ideological origins in successive failed US attempts at dominance.Desai recovers and revitalizes notions of national self-determination and popular dissent, drawing on revolutionary intellectual traditions that understand the world order as formed by 'the relations of producing nations'. At a time of global upheavals and profound shifts in the distribution of power, Geopolitical Economy forges a vivid and compelling account of the historical processes that are shaping the contemporary international order."

When commercial media practices are insinuated into local cultures, existing cultural and media practices are often displaced and social inequalities are exacerbated—sometimes with the consent of consumers, but frequently confronting organized proponents. The Globalization of Corporate Media Hegemony provides case studies from five continents—from government-promoted telecommunications programs and technologies in Canada and Britain, MTV Asia's call-in request lines, and the pan-Latin ideology of a Mexican television variety show, to Islamic pop radio in Turkey, commercial radio in Africa, a "Millionaire" game show in India, and Hollywood's muted influence on Korean cinema, among others. Each case offers new insight into the particulars of an expanding corporate hegemony and together they invite the conversation on media globalization to consider the dynamics of class conflict and negotiation as an analytical perspective having prescriptive potential.

The Frontiers Of Public Diplomacy written by Colin Alexander and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Political Science categories.
Through an analysis of the many peripheries of the international system where power dynamics are most apparent, this edited volume provides one of the most formidable critical inquiries into public diplomacy's relationship with hegemony, morality and power. To this end, the examination of public diplomacy's 'frontiers' will aid scholars and students alike in their acquiring of greater critical understanding around the values and intentions that are at the crux of this area of statecraft. For the contributing authors to this edited volume, public diplomacy is not just a political communications term, it is also a moral term wherein actors attempt to convey a sense of their own virtuosity and 'goodness' to international audiences. The book thereby provides fascinating insight into public diplomacy from the under-researched angle of moral philosophy and ethics, arguing that public diplomacy is one of the primary vehicles through which international actors engage in moral rhetoric to meet their power goals. The Frontiers of Public Diplomacy is a landmark book for scholars, students and practitioners of the subject. At a practical level it provides a series of interesting case studies of public diplomacy in peripheral settings. However, at a conceptual level it challenges the reader to consider more fully the assumptions that they may make about public diplomacy and its role within the international system.

The Endgame Of Globalization written by Neil Smith and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-07-08 with Political Science categories.
The recent American invasion of Iraq represents the endgame of America's decades-old effort to impose its vision of globalization-a system dominated by multinational firms and buttressed by the liberalism of John Locke and Adam Smith. Whereas the war surely ended Saddam Hussein's regime, the storm of countervailing forces it unleashed points to another end: that of America's latest global project. This is not the first time that the US has tried to reshape the world in its own liberal image, but the third. The first effort stretched from the late nineteenth century to 1920, ending when America rejected entry into the League of Nations. The FDR administration engineered the second attempt in the 1940s, but it withered in the Cold War. The third moment-the era of globalization-began in the late 1960s, when the US transformed the Bretton Woods financial institutions and used its own economic power to enforce a worldwide neoliberal orthodoxy tied to an ideal of liberal democracy. But the effort is failing for the same reasons the preceding attempts failed. As Neil Smith shows, the Lockean liberalism that animates American globalism has always been undercut by a crippling nationalism that exposes the contradictions built into the ideal. In each instance, a hard-edged nationalism-evident in the rejection of the League of Nations, in the policies of the Cold War, and in the current Iraq war-always surfaces and drives US actions despite America's self-perception as a champion of benign universal values. Moreover, it always generates opposition. Attuned to history, political economy, and geography, The Endgame of Globalization is a sweeping and powerful account of America's century-long quest for global dominance and the nationalism within that invariably unravels the dream.
