In the immense literature on globalization, the work of Roland Robertson stands out. In particular, his insistence that globalization manifests itself primarily as glocalization, the simultaneity of the global and the local, of homogenization and heterogenization continues to influence how a wide variety of observers understand the process, including those who contest it. In honour of Robertson’s lifetime contributions, this volume brings together a set of essays that demonstrate the cogency of his approach, point out directions in which it can be further developed, and illustrate the insight it can provide in topics as varied as religion, football, wine, morality, and UFOs. Contributors include: Peter Beyer, John Boli, Didem Buhari Gulmez, Rebecca Catto, Richard Giulianotti, Ulf Hannerz, David Inglis, Paul James, Habibul Haque Khondker, Anne Sophie Krossa, Frank Lechner, Kristian Naglo, John H. Simpson, Manfred B. Steger, and George M. Thomas.

The chapters discuss various aspects in the field through a broad range of approaches. This handbook focuses on global studies more than on the phenomenon of globalization itself, although the various aspects of globalization are central to understanding how the field is currently being shaped

This unique edited volume offers a distinctive theoretical perspective and advanced insights into how music is impacted by the interaction of global forces with local conditions. As the first major book to apply the timely notion of “glocality” to music, this collection features robust scholarship on genres and practices from many corners of the world: from studies of European opera professions and the oeuvre of several contemporary art music composers, to music in Uzbekistan and Indonesia, urban street musicians, and even the didjeridoo. The authors interrogate theories of glocalization, distinguishing this notion from globalization and other more familiar concepts, and demonstrate how its application illuminates the mechanisms that link changing musical practices and technologies with their social milieu. This incisive book is relevant to scholars of many different specializations, particularly those with a deep interest in relationships between music and society, both past and present. More broadly, its discussions will be of value to those concerned with how changing policies and technologies impact cultural heritage and the creative approaches of performing artists worldwide.

This paper examines the evolution and transformation of the concept of globalization to glocalization. The paper will also trace the history and the development of the concept of quot;glocalizationquot;, which originated in Japan as a popular business strategy. The paper examine in broad terms concepts, theories and principles of glocalization in business perspectives. The paper wants to focus on the epistemological analysis of the globalization and glocalization themes. In Economic Sciences, it is often difficult to trace the origin of concepts: these concepts are often products of collective endeavors. Inside these processes, from the quot;post-globalization eraquot;, a new ethical feeling is born to measure the corporate performances that are business, social and ethical performances: these processes will require new accounting instruments and new accounting professional profiles. The article also provides a discussion on the importance of well-defined concepts and approaches used by scholars and by practitioners in various contexts. It is troublesome when the use of a concept or an approach is ambiguous and confusing. The discussion focuses on and demonstrates through, the globalization of business activities and the term 'global strategy'. The widespread use of popular jargon cannot cover the fact that a genuine or true global strategy approach appears to be a managerial viewpoint. The terms quot;glocal strategyquot; and the 'glocalization' of business activities are introduced to enhance the accuracy of the present usage by scholars and by practitioners of the term global strategy and the phenomenon often described as the globalization of business activities.
