God And The Rhetoric Of Sexuality written by Phyllis Trible and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1978 with Religion categories.

Focusing on texts in the Hebrew Bible, and using feminist hermeneutics, Phyllis Trible brings out what she considers to be neglected themes and counter literature. After outlining her method in more detail, she begins by highlighting the feminist imagery used for God; then she moves on to traditions embodying male and female within the context of the goodness of creation. If Genesis 2-3 is a love story gone awry, the Song of Songs is about sexuality redeemed in joy. In between lies the book of Ruth, with its picture of the struggles of everyday life.

The seven chapters consider Scripture and sex; the connections between the triune, covenantal God and human sexuality; Christ's incarnation and resurrection as affirming the beauty of flesh; eschatology and sexual identity; the ramifications of the Lord's Supper for human sexuality; vocation and Christian callings to marriage, celibacy, and singleness; and sexual ethics.

Look what people are saying about Sex and the Kingdom! "It is with much enthusiasm that I endorse and recommend "Sex and the Kingdom" as a book needed to bring a healthy understanding of human sexuality in an hour that is increasingly carnal, Godless, decadent and immoral. Bishop Yelverton lays out for us a Godly perspective of sexuality, which indeed is a subject that many churches and individuals within the Body of Christ will not approach. In this book, he has remained true to his Pentecostal Holiness roots, as well as his theological training. It is a must read for all students and scholars who are serious about the Word of God and the future of the Lord's Church. Indeed it appears that we are losing the battle for what is moral and decent, and these kinds of writings are necessary for us to indeed hold the banner high for holiness and that the Bible is still our rule of faith and practice." Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr., D. Min. The Cathedral International Perth Amboy, New Jersey" Much debate is taking place in sanctuaries across the nation about same sex marriages and regrettably the discussion ends there. Bishop Yelverton has pushed the envelope and the dialogue over the cliff with no parachute. Sex and the Kingdom should not just be read by every believer but debated, meditated and taught. The celibate to the promiscuous will be captivated by every page." Pastor Jamal H. Bryant Empowerment Temple Baltimore, Maryland "My brother and friend Bishop Yelverton has expressed his heart to help realign the church's understanding of sex as designed by God. This book gives a clear picture that we should get our viewpoint of sex from God's word alone. Sex and The Kingdom will instruct you on biblical scriptures regarding sex and sexuality because it reflects the Kingdom and God's intent on sex. This book is a must read." A placard carried in the San Diego Gay Parade said it all: "He's your God. They're your rules. You go to Hell." Clearly, there is no longer any commonly held ultimate authority. So merely quoting Bible verses at gays and other "sexual sinners" to prove they are immoral is equally unsuccessful, if not destructive. For the sake of our young people, for the sake of our churches, for the sake of society and our world, Christians must understand the connection of spirituality and sexuality if we are to communicate relevantly to our postmodern culture. Jones gives an objective, honest appraisal of contemporary sexual trends and puts them up against God's clear (and beautiful) design for sex as a spiritual expression. Features and Benefits Helps Christians break out of typical parameters to help them understand and relevantly engage the culture. Nonbelievers will find this book objective and non-offensive, fairly representing postmodern worldviews. Thorough index and bibliography makes this book a powerful resource tool.

How different are men and women? When does it matter to us -- or to God? Are male and female the only two options? In Sex Difference in Christian Theology Megan DeFranza explores such questions in light of the Bible, theology, and science. Many Christians, entrenched in culture wars over sexual ethics, are either ignorant of the existence of intersex persons or avoid the inherent challenge they bring to the assumption that everybody is born after the pattern of either Adam or Eve. DeFranza argues, from a conservative theological standpoint, that all people are made in the image of God -- male, female, and intersex -- and that we must listen to and learn from the voices of the intersexed among us.

Carr Professor of Old Testament Union Theological Seminary and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-12-19 with Psychology categories.

Historically, the Bible has been used to drive a wedge between the spirit and the body. In this provocative book, David Carr argues that it can--and should--do just the opposite. Sexuality and spirituality, Carr contends, are intricately interwoven: when one is improverished, the other is warped. As a result, the journey toward God and the life-long engagement with our own sexual embodiment are inseparable. Humans, the Bible tells us, both male and female, were created in God's image, and eros--a fundamental longing for connection that finds abstract good in the pleasure we derive from the stimulation of the senses--is a central component of that image. The Bible, particularly the Hebrew Bible, affirms erotic passion, both eros between humans and eros between God and humans. In a sweeping examination of the sexual rules of the Bible, Carr asserts that Biblical "family values" are a far cry from anything promoted as such in contemporary politics. He concludes that passionate love--our preoccupaton therewith and pursuit thereof--is the primary human vocation, that eros is in fact the flavoring of life.
