In a world where religion refuses to expire, two responses predominate. The first, to retrench within the certainties of one's native or adopted faith, questioning nothing; the second, to sneer and snarl from the secular side-lines. Here, Stephen Cherry offers a third alternative for religious believer, agnostic, and atheist alike - to engage with the study of theology. Confessing himself to be a reluctant theologian, Cherry puts forward three positive reasons why more people should take theology seriously - because it's fascinating, fun and important. He suggests that genuine theology is the antidote to fundamentalism, contrasts the theological approaches of Jesus of Nazareth and Richard Dawkins, introduces some of the biggest puzzles unravelled by theology, and reviews the history of the subject in fewer than 20 tweets. Drawing people at all stages of life into a more serious engagement with the riches, delights and fun of theology, it is a book for any who find themselves to be a little God-curious.

God created us to be curious. We innately wonder about the world, one another, ourselves, and our Creator. But fear of the unknown, cultural taboos, technology, or even church leaders can smother our curiosity. Popular writer Lore Ferguson Wilbert has belonged to Christian communities that discouraged curiosity. The point of the Christian life was to have the right answers, and asking questions reflected a wavering faith. But Wilbert came to discover that the Bible is a permission slip to anyone who wants to ask questions. Reflecting her own theological trajectory toward a more contemplative, expansive faith, Wilbert invites readers to foster curiosity as a spiritual habit. This book explores questions God asks us, questions we ask God, and questions we ask each other. Christianity is not about knowing good answers, says Wilbert, but about asking good questions--ones that foster deeper intimacy with God and others. A Curious Faith invites readers to go beyond pat answers and embrace curiosity, rather than certainty, as a hallmark of authentic faith. Foreword by Seth Haines.

BEING TOO CURIOUS ABOUT LIFE GOT ME TWO CHANCES IN LIFE- Curiosity and lack of knowledge gets me a second chance in life. It takes a vision of death to upgrade my love and fear for God. Everything is upgradeable from that entertainment system in your home, to the computer you use can be upgraded. But we are talking about life and God grades our life from high up above. When we are tested on our jobs or at school, and we fail the test, we don’t get the promotion. But we can always take the test over. Imagine being at the end of your life and you fail the test that will determine whether you get in heaven or not. You can’t take this test over. And it’s a test we just can’t get around. No matter who you are, no matter what you have done, sooner or later you must take this test. Even though there is no way around, there is a way to pass this test. Just call on Jesus. He is available 24/7, and he will save you. See, for me, I was 30 at the time and thought I knew and had it all. I didn’t need anybody for nothing let me tell it. I was prepared for the world, but I wasn’t prepared for the end of the world. God had something prepared for me that changed and saved my life. It all happened due to curiosity.

Curious written by Tom Hughes and has been published by NavPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-17 with Religion categories.

Did you know that of the 183 questions Jesus was asked, he answered only four of them directly? The other 179 he answered with questions (or sometimes a story). Questions are not the enemy of faith; they are the way Jesus most often helped people not just say the right things, but live the right ways. The joy, creativity, and the adventure we were created to live begin with asking the right questions and then living into the answers with God’s help. If you are wondering how to draw closer to Jesus and live your unique adventure with him, Curious will help you, question by question, step into the future God has for you. If you are a leader who wonders how to lead well without burning out, Curious will show you how, by asking the right questions, you can help empower those you influence to greater motivation and creativity as they live out their answers to these questions with God’s help. As Jesus demonstrated, asking the right questions at the right time, and communicating them in the right spirit, can transform hearts and change the world. Let Tom Hughes thread together stories that will lead you into a new sense of confidence, not in yourself but in the God who loves you and calls you according to his good purpose.

Curious History Of God written by Russell Stannard and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-03-01 with categories.

Stories in the Bible present pictures of God that can be confusing, but author Russell Stannard shows young people how apparent inconsistencies in descriptions of God in the Bible stories are merely people from different places and times getting to know God better. In the same way as people's understanding of the world has changed and improved over time (through science), so their ideas and understanding of God have changed and developed. Through a re-telling of Bible stories, Stannard illustrates the expanding image of God from the days in which people believed in lots of "cruel, fierce and blood-thirsty" gods, to the times of Moses, Saul, and David, "the most important king the Israelites were ever to have. . . . [H]e loved the Lord so much he was always making up hymns. These songs were so good, people still sing them today (you can find them in the Bible in the books of Psalms)." Imbedded in the stories are additional valuable lessons, like those gleaned from the prophets Elijah, Hosea, Amos, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Most of the prophets never wanted to be prophets in the first place. It meant having to speak up in front of lots of people. "I'm no good at that sort of thing, " they would complain to the Lord. "Can't you send someone else instead? I'm sure they'd do a better job." For many centuries, people thought their picture of God was complete: God had nothing more to reveal and people knew what there was to know. Today as science unveils the birth of new stars and planets, it is clear that God continues to create and people continue to learn more about Him. By showing the progression of knowledge from biblical days to the present, The Curious History of God helps childrenexpand their own understanding of God.

The nativity is more than a warm and fuzzy feeling of longing for universal peace that envelops the earth around the end of the year. It's also not just a sign pointing to something greater in our lives. In trenchant messages that are liberally sprinkled with contemporary illustrations, Daniel Weitner reminds us that to know what Christmas is all about, we don't need to look outside Bethlehem... beyond the manger... or past the baby Jesus. Instead we should focus on the birth of Jesus the redeemer -- it is the wonderful event! Describing earthy events with celestial significance, Daniel Weitner discerns divine activity in some of life's most mundane moments. Curious Commercials, a cluster of Advent meditations, is an excellent exposition of Incarnation theology. Parker T. Williamson Executive Editor, The Presbyterian Layman A veteran of 25 years of pastoral ministry, Daniel J. Weitner is currently pastor of First Presbyterian Church in North Arlington, New Jersey, a parish situated in the heart of the Meadowlands suburbs of New York City. He holds a B.A. degree in English literature from Grove City College (Pennsylvania) and an M.Div. degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.
