Karl Barth was, without doubt, one of the most significant religious thinkers of modern times. His radical affirmation of the revealed truth of Christianity changed the course of Christian theology in the twentieth century and is a source of inspiration for countless believers. Pope Pius XII declared that there had been nothing like Karl Barth's later thought since Thomas Aquinas. God Here and Now offers a succinct and accessible overview of that thought. In it, Barth outlines his position on the fundamental tenets of Christian belief, from the decision of faith to the authority of the Bible, and from the interpretation of grace to the significance of Jesus Christ. In this way Barth challenges each and every reader to discover what it means to encounter God, here and now.

At Home With God Here And Now written by Lee Adams Young and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-05-25 with Religion categories.

From biblical times through the Middle Ages and the Reformation, the Christian religion enjoyed a sturdy belief in God, consistent with human knowledge of the universe. But modern science then introduced a new picture of this world, at odds not only with the old world picture but with the miracle-working God of ancient Scripture. Of the many different responses to this conflict, three stand out:i) To deny the religious view of God and the world; orii) To deny many solid findings of generations of scientists concerning the evolution of stars, the Earth, and life; oriii) To deny little, yet to affirm little in religionto repeat ancient rituals without serious conviction. Lee Adams Young, a physicist and Bible scholar, claims to replace this chaos with an orderly view of God and the worldin only 437 pages! He makes three main points: 1. The Bible consistently but falsely split the world into two separate realms: Heaven and Earth. God rarelyor neverleft his celestial throne room to visit the Earth. The steeples of traditional churches pointed toward this Sky God, and the Lord's Prayer still speaks of a Father in Heaven. The result has been a disconnect between God and the believera chasm bridged only by armies of angels and other intermediaries, or via long-distance calls. The solution, according to At Home with God: Here and Now, is to proclaim (as does science) that there is only one realm of reality. God should be seen as dwelling in this world, says Youngindeed, within each of us, available for direct communication and personal support. Prayer should take the form of face-to-face communication with a person no farther away than the other end of a park bench. 2. The Bible consistently and correctly insists upon the inseparability of the human body and soul. So does Aristotle, and the latest Catholic Catechism. Alas, in postbiblical times many Jews and Christians have come to believe that at death the human soul could detach itself from the body and ascend to Heaven. Young responds as follows: a. If there is no Heaven, the latter step has no meaning. We are face to face with God now in this life. Because we already live in a sacred world, one need not die in order to reach the divine. b. The notion of a soul that can function independently of bodily support goes against ancient and modern awareness of the influence of bodily conditions on thinking and memory. c. Near-death experiences (NDEs) are reports from the living, not from those who died. Medical research shows that NDEs are triggered, not by the objective peril of death, but by the subjective fear of death. d. Human faith in an afterlife can blunt the human need to put interpersonal relationships in order in this life. We must mend our personal fences nowthere is no second chance, as the Hebrew Bible says. 3. The God depicted in Young's book is entirely consistent with modern science. That God is seen as the essential governor of nature, whose regularities people depend on and science describes. This book is recommended to all who seek a religious faith based on reality, not makebelieve; a faith grounded in ancient wisdom yet believable in this modern age.

We are experiencing God always. The experience of God, however, transcends our capacity to comprehend it. We will never fully grasp what God is, but this does not mean we should stop trying. Our ideas about God set the tone for our spiritual development. The further we are willing to journey into the mystery of God, the more we will be transformed by it. The bigger the ideas, the bigger the God, and the more our lives will reflect God. When I set out to write Where is God? it was my intention to entertain the biggest ideas possible. I wanted to understand the God of all things--the God of religion and science, the God of music and beauty, the God of life and death, the God of love. This is a book of ideas, big ideas.

Do you long for something more in your relationship with God? Are you struggling to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit? Many spiritual seekers are tired of a superficial faith and yearn to know the fi re of God’s presence burning in their hearts. In Holy Spirit Here and Now Trevor Hudson shares his personal journey and offers practical guidance to help you experience the Holy Spirit moving in your ordinary life. Some of the common hurdles he addresses are: Feeling that the Holy Spirit is only available to religious professionals, but not to you Being put off by negative past experiences with people attempting to push you into an experience of the Holy Spirit Having a sense that something is lacking in your relationship with God Feeling that experiences of God’s Spirit are far removed from our everyday lives Believing that experiencing the Holy Spirit is a once-off event rather than a lifetime journey. Trevor Hudson encourages you to allow every part of your life – your emotions, body, soul, relationships, career – to become an arena where the Holy Spirit can work. If life is a test of sorts, a journey preparing us for heaven—shouldn’t there be bits of heaven around us already? This book unveils them! In the book of Matthew, Jesus repeatedly describes heaven—and each time He uses ordinary, earthly examples. This world has many wonderful and mysterious aspects that we might think better suited to describe something as magnificent as heaven—but Jesus uses mustard seeds, hiring workers, children, and weeds as examples. Heaven—Here and Now considers those examples—chosen for a different culture in a different time—and applies them to the here and now, to the everyday stuff of our ordinary lives. It’s a beautiful preview of heaven.

Who are we? Why are we here now? Where are we going? Human beings have been asking these questions since time immemorial. In the Old Testament, the identity of God is revealed as living existence. In the New Testament, God's identity is love. This book uses theology, philosophy, psychology, and science to analyze these two identities and unite them in the one God. Made in God's image, our identity also involves living existence and love. It determines our purpose in life here and now, as well as our destiny.

Heaven On Earth written by R. Alan Streett and has been published by Harvest House Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-01 with Religion categories.

The future hope of heaven is pulled into the here-and-now in this illuminating description of the kingdom of God. Popular teacher and author R. Alan Streett exposes half-truths about the kingdom that many believers have unwittingly accepted. He contrasts these with the testimony of Scripture: Jesus inaugurated the kingdom of God on the earth—it has already begun. As ambassadors of the kingdom, we are to fulfill our responsibilities and enjoy its benefits here and now. Salvation does not culminate with the soul escaping the body and living forever in heaven. Our bodies will eventually be transformed, and we will live with God on a restored earth. The church is like an embassy of heaven in a foreign country. In their life together, believers demonstrate kingdom realities to the world. Readers will find hope and direction in this fresh presentation of the historic teaching on the kingdom.
