I invite you to join me on an in depth journey through the greatest love poem of the Bible, and indeed of the whole of world history: the Song of Songs. This is a breathtakingly beautiful drama that occurs, not between two human hearts, but between every single human heart and the God who is passionately in love with us. In this drama, we will encounter the pain of longing for a Beloved who seems to be absent, and we will encounter the ecstatic joy of discovering that he is never far away. We will rest in the joy of his indestructible love, which cradles us without ceasing even in our darkest place, delighting in us and cherishing us in our own unique and unrepeatable beauty. And our hearts will hopefully be inflamed with an ardent longing to love the One who has so passionately loved us, drawing us to surrender ourselves to him and to enter into ever deeper intimacy with he who is "the fairest of the sons of men" (Ps 45:2), who is indeed the Beautiful One himself.

"How do we know God? Can we know God as he is in himself? Theologians have argued for the role of natural and supernatural revelation, while others have argued that we know God only on the basis of the incarnation. In this SCDS volume, Steven J. Duby casts a vision for integrating natural theology, the incarnation, and metaphysics in a Christian description of God in himself"--

There is a common question that is asked about God. If God exists as a person, what is he like? Let God speak for himself! Discover the ways of God disclosed in the Word of God—the Holy Bible. The Bible from beginning to end is an account of the ways of God. The inspired scriptures is God in his own words describing his ways—all of which are a reflection of his awesome, unchanging character. The Bible is God making his ways known by words he inspired to be written and by historical events recorded in the pages of Scripture whereby he has visibly expressed his character. God’s way is holiness, but God is also at one and the same time righteous, true, just, loving, gracious, merciful, and good. God’s intent is not only that we know these truths about him but that we also know God as a “person” we can worship, believe in, trust, love, and serve. The proof we want to know God is that we desire in good faith to reflect his ways in our daily lives in everything we think and say and do.

In his Epistles, Peter emphasizes God’s government. Whereas Paul’s ministry speaks mainly of the Body of Christ and John’s ministry speaks mainly of the house of God, Peter’s ministry speaks mainly of the kingdom of God, that is, of all matters related to God’s governmental administration. His Epistles substantially and comprehensively speak of how God’s hand in His governmental administration accomplishes His desire in us, and they speak deeply and with much application to our actual condition. If we want to know God in our practical living and walk and know God’s hand and His work upon us, we must know the content of the Epistles of Peter.

In this hour of all-but-universal darkness one cheering gleam appears: within the fold of conservative Christianity there are to be found increasing numbers of persons whose religious lives are marked by a growing hunger after God Himself. They are eager for spiritual realities and will not be put off with words, nor will they be content with correct ""interpretations"" of truth. They are athirst for God, and they will not be satisfied till they have drunk deep at the Fountain of Living Water. This book is a modest attempt to aid God's hungry children so to find Him. Nothing here is new except in the sense that it is a discovery which my own heart has made of spiritual realities most delightful and wonderful to me. Others before me have gone much farther into these holy mysteries than I have done, but if my fire is not large it is yet real, and there may be those who can light their candle at its flame.

New York Times bestselling author and Bible expert Bart Ehrman reveals how Jesus’s divinity became dogma in the first few centuries of the early church. The claim at the heart of the Christian faith is that Jesus of Nazareth was, and is, God. But this is not what the original disciples believed during Jesus’s lifetime—and it is not what Jesus claimed about himself. How Jesus Became God tells the story of an idea that shaped Christianity, and of the evolution of a belief that looked very different in the fourth century than it did in the first. A master explainer of Christian history, texts, and traditions, Ehrman reveals how an apocalyptic prophet from the backwaters of rural Galilee crucified for crimes against the state came to be thought of as equal with the one God Almighty, Creator of all things. But how did he move from being a Jewish prophet to being God? In a book that took eight years to research and write, Ehrman sketches Jesus’s transformation from a human prophet to the Son of God exalted to divine status at his resurrection. Only when some of Jesus’s followers had visions of him after his death—alive again—did anyone come to think that he, the prophet from Galilee, had become God. And what they meant by that was not at all what people mean today. Written for secular historians of religion and believers alike, How Jesus Became God will engage anyone interested in the historical developments that led to the affirmation at the heart of Christianity: Jesus was, and is, God.

The God Who Makes Himself Known written by W. Ross Blackburn and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-05 with Religion categories.

The Lord's commitment to make himself known throughout the nations is the overarching missionary theme of the Bible and the central theological concern of Exodus. Countering scholarly tendencies to fragment the text over theological difficulties, Ross Blackburn contends that Exodus should be read as a unified whole, and that an appreciation of its missionary theme in its canonical context is of great help in dealing with the difficulties that the book poses. For example, how is Exodus 6:3 best understood? Is there a tension between law and gospel, or mercy and judgment? How should we understand the painstaking detail of the tabernacle chapters? From a careful examination of Exodus, this New Studies in Biblical Theology volume demonstrates that the Lord humbled Pharaoh so the world would know that only God can save the Lord gave Israel the law so that its people might display his goodness to the nations, living in a state of order and blessing the Lord dealt with Israel's idolatry severely, yet mercifully, for his goodness cannot be known if his glory is compromised In the end, Exodus not only sheds important light on the church's mission, but also reveals what kind of God the Lord is, one who pursues his glory and our good, ultimately realizing both as he makes himself known in Christ Jesus. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Hebrews 11:16 "But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them." The New Jerusalem is the city of God. God Himself has both designed it and He has built it. And so, as God is perfect, so the city that He has built is also perfect. In the above passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that from its foundations to its pinnacle, the builder and maker of the heavenly city, is God Himself. That same passage says that God has (past tense) prepared the city for us. In other words, even though the new heavens and the new earth have not yet been created, nevertheless God has already completed the city of the New Jerusalem and the New Jerusalem is currently being reserved in heaven, for the saints. This book examines what the bible teaches us about the events that will take place after the Millennial reign of Christ.
