Honest, faithful people are wondering if the Bible is really telling them to hate gay people. This book is a reasoned response to that inquiry. It deals with the Scriptures most often cited to justify homophobia and provides a more loving interpretation. Six lesbians tell their story and how the Church has impacted their lives. Families and clergy are given clear guidelines on how to offer support and kindness to this marginalized and maligned group of women. This is an important book for our time. Homophobia, cruelty, and denial of human dignity to all gay people at home and globally have re-emerged, much of it fueled by false and malicious biblical interpretation.

“I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

“God and the Gay Christian is a game changer. Winsome, accessible, and carefully researched, every page is brought to life by the author’s clear love for Scripture and deep, persistent faith. With this book, Matthew Vines emerges as one of my generation’s most important Christian leaders, not only on matters of sexuality but also on what it means to follow Jesus with wisdom, humility, and grace. Prepare to be challenged and enlightened, provoked and inspired. Read with an open heart and mind, and you are bound to be changed.” — Rachel Held Evans, author of A Year of Biblical Womanhood and Faith Unraveled As a young Christian man, Matthew Vines harbored the same basic hopes of most young people: to someday share his life with someone, to build a family of his own, to give and receive love. But when he realized he was gay, those hopes were called into question. The Bible, he’d been taught, condemned gay relationships. Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality. With care and precision, Vines asked questions such as: • Do biblical teachings on the marriage covenant preclude same-sex marriage or not? • How should we apply the teachings of Jesus to the gay debate? • What does the story of Sodom and Gomorrah really say about human relationships? • Can celibacy be a calling when it is mandated, not chosen? • What did Paul have in mind when he warned against same-sex relations? Unique in its affirmation of both an orthodox faith and sexual diversity, God and the Gay Christian is likely to spark heated debate, sincere soul searching, even widespread cultural change. Not only is it a compelling interpretation of key biblical texts about same-sex relations, it is also the story of a young man navigating relationships with his family, his hometown church, and the Christian church at large as he expresses what it means to be a faithful gay Christian.

Encourage the Church to address the gift of human sexuality—how to view it, how to deal with it, and how it relates to spirituality A Theology of Gay and Lesbian Inclusion: Love Letters to the Church challenges traditional church teachings that brand homosexuality as immoral, using pertinent scripture from the central Gospel to promote a full acceptance of gay and lesbian Christians. This powerful book questions the assumption that gay Christians are morally inferior, presenting testimony from gay men and lesbians about prejudice they’ve experienced at the hands of the Church—and its straight members. Written as a series of ten letters, the book addresses the strengths and weaknesses of the church and appeals for a new understanding and commitment to the acceptance of its gay members. From the author: The purpose of this book is to equip you, Christian warrior of the Gospel of peace, to stand against those who use the Bible to resist change—even that change of which our Lord would approve. In one sense, there is nothing revolutionary about this book. It is a book that respects tradition—but only up to a point: that point where tradition has to change, to give way to what the Holy Spirit is showing us in our day of the mind of Christ. And this is not revolutionary, because tradition has had to change before; it is a developing truth, born of the corporate experience of the children of God, and open to our claiming the exercise of our God-given gift of reason. A Theology of Gay and Lesbian Inclusion includes a series of letters that progress from establishing the purpose and credibility of the author, to developing grounding in Scripture and experience, to appealing to the reader to act as an ally of gay and lesbian Christians. The letters include: “Dear Christian Believer,” which aims for the “bull’s-eye” of the reader’s faith “Dear Sexual Being,” which offers a fresh look at a sensitive topic “Dear Confused Church Member,” which discusses what gay people are “really” like “Dear Concerned Church Member,” which discusses what gay people really want “Dear Bible Explorer,” which discusses what the Bible really says “Dear Person Trying to Do the Right Thing,” from “being” to “doing” and much more A Theology of Gay and Lesbian Inclusion provides a friendly and informal Biblical rationale for alternatives to traditional church teachings, encouraging the acceptance of gay and lesbian people as fully moral and fully Christian.

God loves (period). In fact, God doesn't just love - 'God is love' - It doesn't matter who we are or what we've done, God loves us. And He doesn't expect us to be perfect before we come to Him, or after for that matter. God gave my wife and I two gay sons and we are committed Christians. We love them unconditionally and so does God. That set me on a search of the Bible. Because it seemed important to my younger son that I should attend Gay Pride in Liverpool, I agreed to do so. I was overwhelmed by the reception I received as I held my 'God Loves Gays' sign. Apparently some religious people had been holding up a 'God hates Faggots' sign nearer the start of the procession. Hopefully this book will strike at those who judge others and who, by their very actions, condemn themselves. I want everyone to know that they are loved by God. He couldn't love them more than He does at this precise moment. Jesus came to show us that God loves us just as we are. He gave His life on the cross to display the full extent of that love. He tells us Himself that He did not come into the world to condemn people. God wants each one of us to run to Him, like the prodigal stinking of pigs, dirty and full of sin. No strings attached and if we do then he will kill the fattened calf, arrange the karaoke and even get some angels in on the jamboree. Sadly in the background will be religious people who can't stand fun but prefer to 'tut' - One of the chapters is headed 'God Invented Sex' - Too many seem to think that God doesn't like sex. He told the first couple, "Be fruitful and multiply!" And there's only one way to do that. Hopefully the book is fun. I sensed a twinkle in God's eye as I stood at Gay Pride and a chuckle as I set to writing this book. I hope you enjoy it and that it will cause you to run towards your loving creator with arms open wide just like his are towards you. I believe that the Bible is God breathed and that God is still breathing His life through His word. I believe that the Scriptures are 100% inspired. But I also believe that there is a progression - According to God's written law the woman caught in the act of adultery ought to have been stoned to death but Jesus rode roughshod over His Father's law and in certain other places it is clear that God changed His mind. Read on with a mind open to hear His voice. Inviting God into your life is to open yourself to the real fun. The devil is the kill-joy. God loves you massively and He couldn't love you one iota more than He does right now. I didn't know what to expect as I began writing this book but I found that He is aching to be loved by His creation. - Every single penny, dime, cent which I receive from each one of my books goes to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year Award winner Golden Canon Leadership Book Award winner Relevant Magazine: Top 20 Best Overall Books winner Englewood Review of Books: Top 20 Best Overall Books winner Christian Manifesto Lime Award winner Andrew Marin's life changed forever when his three best friends came out to him in three consecutive months. Suddenly he was confronted with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community (GLBT) firsthand. And he was compelled to understand how he could reconcile his friends to his faith. In an attempt to answer that question, he and his wife relocated to Boystown, a predominantly GLBT community in Chicago. And from his experience and wrestling has come his book, Love Is an Orientation, a work which elevates the conversation between Christianity and the GLBT community, moving the focus from genetics to gospel, where it really belongs. Why are so many people who are gay wary of people who are Christians? Do GLBT people need to change who they are? Do Christians need to change what they believe? Love Is an Orientation is changing the conversation about sexuality and spirituality, and building bridges from the GLBT community to the Christian community and, more importantly, to the good news of Jesus Christ.

We Love You, But You’re Going to Hell presents a non-confrontational study of the conflict surrounding Christian faith, Scriptures, and homosexuality. It addresses the dichotomy of love and condemnation, sincerely expressed by Christians – and the pain experienced by gays and lesbians. • How do sincere, Bible-believing Christians balance their interpretation of Scriptures with everyday encounters with gays and lesbians? • How do we have conversations when we disagree? Without judging or calling into question someone’s faith or salvation? This book OPENS UP the conversation – with chapters devoted to the Author’s Story, Scriptures, Stereotypes, Marriage, Religious Freedom, Why It Matters, and What We Can Do in our families, churches, and society. It is easy to single-handedly dismiss an individual or church’s belief or stance by writing them off as conservative or liberal. No matter which side you are on, there is benefit to educating yourself on the beliefs and experiences of those with whom you disagree. The author asks that the reader consider viewpoints expressed by a variety of churches and ministers. Look closely at the Scriptures that are cited and decide for yourself. Look at the beliefs of well-known conservative ministers and doctrines of several church denominations in this book. Some Christians believe it is loving to demand denial of homosexuality, ending relationships, changing to heterosexuality, or remaining celibate – in order that the soul be saved. Others believe sexual orientation is God-given, cannot be changed and that it is cruel and unloving to demand it. If you believe homosexuality is a sin, the Scriptures condemn, sexual orientation doesn’t exist; read this book. Argue with it, confirm your beliefs, question, change your mind. The author invites your engagement. Kim O’Reilly cares deeply about the divisions she sees in churches today over homosexuality. How do we get beyond the disagreements, divisiveness, and polarization we see playing out in our churches and society? How do we honor the rights of each of these groups without denying the rights of the other? She attempts to answer these questions throughout her book. Love and/or Condemnation? “God doesn’t make mistakes. Humans do. God doesn’t make one gay. They make that choice on their own. It’s a fact that homosexuality is a choice. It has a cause – Satan.” “I was nine years old when I recognized my attractions for the same gender. Praying to God every night and pleading with Him to take my feeling away didn’t work. Practically living, eating, and breathing the Bible didn’t work. I tried repressing and denying who I was – but nothing changed inside of me. I was taught by my pastors, parents, and peers to hate myself – and that worked.” What does the Bible say about how we should treat those we disagree with or who we believe are going to Hell? The final chapter offers strategies and solutions on how to bridge the divide between Christians and gays – how to promote healing and not to inflict more pain.
