Note: Author Simon Hayhoe was intervied on BBC Radio 4 in August, 2008. Click here for the transcript. Our book examines the role of three factors, God, Money, and Politics, in the epistemological theory of blindness, (the theory of the construction of knowledge on blindness and touch by social and cultural change). This book also illustrates this development has, in the main, been motivated by an attempt to assert or gain power and why the study of blindness in conventional academic subjects such as psychology, history and sociology is so important. We do this by presenting the main theories of disability and blindness that have informed the writing of this book, and a frame of reference for the historical story. Which places the book in the broad context of theories of disability and blindness, within an academic and symbolic context of physical impairment and the social mythologies that accompany such understanding.

Theology Of Money written by Philip Goodchild and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-01 with Religion categories.

Theology of Money is a philosophical inquiry into the nature and role of money in the contemporary world. Philip Goodchild reveals the significance of money as a dynamic social force by arguing that under its influence, moral evaluation is subordinated to economic valuation, which is essentially abstract and anarchic. His rigorous inquiry opens into a complex analysis of political economy, encompassing markets and capital, banks and the state, class divisions, accounting practices, and the ecological crisis awaiting capitalism. Engaging with Christian theology and the thought of Carl Schmitt, Georg Simmel, Karl Marx, Adam Smith, and many others, Goodchild develops a theology of money based on four contentions, which he elaborates in depth. First, money has no intrinsic value; it is a promise of value, a crystallization of future hopes. Second, money is the supreme value in contemporary society. Third, the value of assets measured by money is always future-oriented, dependent on expectations about how much might be obtained for those assets at a later date. Since this value, when realized, will again depend on future expectations, the future is forever deferred. Financial value is essentially a degree of hope, expectation, trust, or credit. Fourth, money is created as debt, which involves a social obligation to work or make profits to repay the loan. As a system of debts, money imposes an immense and irresistible system of social control on individuals, corporations, and governments, each of whom are threatened by economic failure if they refuse their obligations to the money system. This system of debt has progressively tightened its hold on all sectors and regions of global society. With Theology of Money, Goodchild aims to make conscious our collective faith and its dire implications.

God And Mammon written by Mark A. Noll and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Religion categories.

This collection of all new essays by leading historians offers a close look at the connections between American Protestants and money in the Antebellum period. During the first decades of the new American nation, money was everywhere on the minds of church leaders and many of their followers. Economic questions figured regularly in preaching and pamphleteering, and they contributed greatly to perceptions of morality both public and private. In fact, money was always a religious question. For this reason, argue the authors of these essays, it is impossible to understand broader cultural developments of the period--including political developments--without considering religion and economics together. In God and Mammon, several essays examine the ways in which the churches raised money after the end of establishment put a stop to state funding, such as the collection of pew rents, lotteries, and free-will offerings, which only came later and at first were used only for benevolent purposes. Other essays look at the role of money and markets in the rise of Christian voluntary societies. Still others examine the inter-denominational strife, documenting frequent accusations that theological error led to the misuse of money and the arrogance of wealth. Taken together, the essays provide essential background to an issue that continues to loom large and generate controversy in the Protestant community in America.

In God We Trust written by Barry Swift and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-28 with Religion categories.

This book is for believers and nonbelievers seeking the truth, wanting answers to questions which affect our daily lives. Families are uncertain whether they will keep their homes. Housing values have plummeted. Headlines of lost jobs are almost daily. Sudden unemployment is knocking on the doors of fathers and mothers with young mouths to feed. These are sobering times and uncertainty grips all of us. People are so obsessed with money, yet they understand little about the working of economics. Worst yet is the fact that what we know is just plain wrong. It's scary to think how many of us invest our hard-earned money with people we don't know, in things we know nothing about, trusting that a corporation or individual has integrity. And we have the patience to wait for an anticipated return with the hope of financial security after working twenty to thirty years. People want to believe they are doing the right things to achieve the American Dream, yet most of us live in fear. Individually, people have never seemed more incapable of addressing and overcoming their problems. As with the world in general, the passing of time finds individuals and families drowning under an ever worsening sea of decadence and seemingly insurmountable difficulties. More and more seem completely incapable of managing their lives, all the while trying to do the right things in the pursuit of happiness. Most have lost hope in our government, politicians, churches, and even God. The daily grind to survive leaves us feeling empty and without purpose, in a system of financial despair. We pay our taxes, and things should be better. We elect government officials and things should be better. We abide by the laws and take no short cuts, things should be better! So who do we blame? There must be someone to point our fingers. And more importantly, who or what can change our circumstances for the better? The contents of this book will answer many of the questions you have but are too afraid to ask or for some it might be better not knowing. Either way you have a responsibility to learn and know the truth, which was the sole purpose behind writing this book. "And the Truth shall make you free!"
