An important new book on how we can still believe in a God of love and confront the problem of evil in the world. Probably the most important book on the subject since John Hick's book `Evil and the God of Love`. &; Evil is a strong word that people now employ fairly rarely. Many people believe these days that God is omnipotent, omniscient and good and that what we deem to be bad or evil in the world is no reason for abandoning belief in God. It is an intellectual or theoretical problem not one where the focus is on how one might bring about some desirable goal ( a practical matter). &; Professor Davies says we should tackle this problem by attending to the basics, by asking whether there is a God and then What is God? he starts by summarizing the arguments so far (from Seneca to the present day). He then moves to what he describes as the basics (see above) and demonstrates that much of what has been written about on the topic of evil is in fact irrelevant or just plain wrong. &; Finally, though many theologians argue that evil is a mystery, Davies argues that this too is wrong and a cop out. We should rather be concerned with the problem (or mystery) of good. The real issue is ` Why is there not more good than there is`. From the discussion Aquinas emerges as a hero (as filtered through analytical philosophy) but many moderns thinkers do not emerge so well. Davies effectively picks holes int e arguments of Peter Geach, Paul Helm, Richard Swinburne and even Mary Baker Eddy. &; This is a lively book on a tricky subject, written at all times with humour and much practical example.

Have you gone to religion for answers but ended up more confused? Have you tried to believe in God, but ended up disappointed because he didn't show up as they'd described? There are too many unanswered questions about God, and it makes religion look like a wild goose chase. Religion presents God as a magician, and when God fails to appear as presented and we demand answers, it expects us to accept that God works in mysterious ways, and besides, "How dare you question God?" "The Hidden Truth About God," say, "We are not questioning God, but what was presented to us."This book carefully analyzes and logically weighs theology and reality. It gives a step-by-step breakdown of God's plan for Creation and uses real-life experiences to provide rational answers to unanswered questions about God. And why life is full of pains and suffering when God could snap his fingers and everything becomes perfect, yet he doesn't.Thomas, a computer scientist and teacher of religion together with Grace, a professor of religion and philosophy, reveals life as a program and God as a programmer. They brilliantly decipher codes to find the bridge between the supernatural and the natural, deity and humanity, God and reality, presenting answers to some very interesting questions: What's the truth about heaven? How did sin get into heaven? Why doesn't God take away evil? What happens in the supernatural? Is religion the way to God?What about reincarnation? Why can't a perfect God have a perfect world? Is there God, or does the universe run itself? What's the big deal about Christianity? Why are there so many contradictions in the Bible?Do you value reason? Are you a skeptic, or a critical thinker? Are you a believer in the universe? Are you atheist, theist, or just searching for answers to the countless questions of the universe? This book will provide you with answers using reason and real-life experiences as it draws resources from Religious books, theology, philosophy, science, and reality. The Law of relativity states that everything is neutral when seen in isolation and only reflects in our reality when we ascribe meaning to it. Therefore, we can give meaning to God and life, or not, but Thomas and Grace's inclusion to this law is that the truth remains true irrespective of relativity. What then is the truth

You know the Big questions. When did it all begin? Before creation, what? Before that? Where was I 10,000 years ago? When will it all end? But I suppose that the question that bothers people most is: How can God, the omnipotent, the Creator, be good when there is so much evil in the world? Here is an attempt to face up to the eternal, unsolvable contradictory questions about God, Jesus, the church and the practice of faith in the Christian life. Without negating traditional religion concepts, God is embraced in all of his attributes. He has a dark side. He is jealous, egotistical, cruel, tyrannical, killer of innocent hordes. He is also recognized as a great deliverer, lover of good, supporter of mankind, and a generally good companion. The Christian opts to address this second image of God, the beneficent. The author has struggled with the definition and nature of God all his life. He has found that he can question God and acknowledge his/her dark side while at the same time love God and bask in his presence and love. Here is a new kind of spiritual journey -- intellectually honest and committed in faith.

God And The Processes Of Reality written by David A. Pailin and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-11 with Philosophy categories.

Can belief in God be rational? David A. Pailin identifies the reasons behind this questioning of theistic faith in his book God and the Processes of Reality (originally published in 1989) and demonstrates how the supposed incoherences in the concept of God are due to the generalization of partial insights. He establishes the basic character of the concept of God, and examines the nature of the major attributes of the divine and of the relationship of God to the processes of reality, looking at God as creator, the relation of God to historical events, and the role of God as the basis for individual fulfilment. The book takes up many of the insights developed by Whitehead and Hartshorne in what is commonly known as process thought. Pailin explains these insights and counters common misapprehensions about them critically, sometimes radically so, to present a credible understanding of the God of theistic belief and a coherent understanding of the relationship of that God to the processes of reality. This book will be of interest to students and researchers of religion and philosophy.
