Gammon is among the best preachers of the word of God practically applied that you will ever read. In this volume are collected his only surviving three works which, in their varied subject matter, draw the Christian closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. His first sermon is, "God’s Just Desertion of the Unjust," (from Revelation 22:11), showing that it is a comfort to the godly to be mercifully confirmed in holiness, and it is a terror to the wicked to be justly suffered to go on in his wickedness. His second sermon is, "The Praise of a Godly Woman," (from Proverbs 31:30) where he shows that "praise" is a debt that must be paid to those who have the true, "fear of the Lord." The fear of the Lord is the truest nobility, the noblest grace, that can ennoble and extol a man or a woman. Such should be praised for it by man, and by God. His third sermon is, "God’s Smiting to Amendment or to Revengement," (from Isaiah 1:5), where he shows what reasons God uses for professing believers when he strikes them justly for their sin. This is a serious call to true repentance, and those who do not repent spit in the face of God, and revel in self-love. With this, God will be severe. God is great in mercies when he strikes us to this end: that we should sin no more. In each of these three sermons, Gammon's exposition is by far the best treatment on all three subjects. These are works to read and pray through, looking for God to be merciful to further transform the Christian into the image of Jesus Christ. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Christ Commanding His Coronavirus To Covenant Breakers written by C. Matthew McMahon and has been published by Puritan Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-03 with Religion categories.

This work expounds on Scripture, and outlines, from a biblical point of view, why Christ has sent his coronavirus to covenant breakers in his church. The thesis is that the world-wide virus (and other calamities which are building and exploding in our day) are here primarily for Christ’s church; his disobedient, covenant breaking church. This is a difficult and saddening time for many people. At the time this work was written, almost 689,000 people have died worldwide from the coronavirus, (158,000 in the US) and the Lord is adding more and more calamity to our country on top of the horrors of prolonged and disease-ridden death. All of it is calamity upon calamity. It’s actually “calamity” that God promises his covenant breaking church if they do not repent. What will the church do in a time like this? Since the calamity is growing and not subsiding, it doesn’t seem like the church is doing much of anything collectively to stop the plague by way of reform, much less those things that have not layered on top of that. The church needs to repent of its idolatry, its lack of scriptural precision, its confessional dismissiveness, its abominable worldliness in the sanctuary of God, and the dishonor they are continually bringing King Jesus, the one they "profess" to serve. God deals very harshly yet tenderly with his people when they break covenant with him. Taken from Leviticus 26, this work expounds and describes the following: that pestilence is a sign from Christ to his church, Christ’s remedies against the plague are sovereign prescriptions he alone commands, Christian humility is needed during times of occasional repentance (and what occasional repentance is), humility in prayer and fasting with godly zeal is required, what the nature of Christ’s afflicting providences are, and a number of other subjects related to the plague, especially if the church does not repent, that they are daring Christ to do his worst against them in their spiritual indifference.

The Affects Of Sin On The Soul written by C. Matthew McMahon and has been published by Puritan Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-01 with Religion categories.

In an expanded treatise on 2 Samuel 24, Dod explains David’s grievous sin of numbering the people against the direct order of God. He shows that in actions of good intent, there can still be great sin which causes us harm, and causes God to act in judgment. Christians often perform activities that seem to glorify God, but are in fact a course of sin, especially when they are not recognized as sin. In diagnosing any sin, the first step to true repentance is to be wounded in our hearts for it against the holiness of God. Dod shows that sin brings Christians into all kinds of trouble, and that God will in fact make his judgments suitable to the sins of his people. In this, there is a great affect that sin has on the souls of God’s people. Annexed to Dod’s work is Robert Cleaver’s (d. 1613) brief tract on godly zeal. Cleaver shows that whatever Christians are zealous for must in fact be lawfully good and for God’s glory. In being zealous, Christians must make the greatest account of the weightiest matters in religion. Such a zeal will tend towards personal, family and church reformation. The Christian S Charge Never To Offend God In Worship written by John Forbes and has been published by Puritan Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-19 with Religion categories.

Mr. Forbes will show you that the house of God should be ordered by God’s rules. In this it should be seen as wholly appropriate that God’s "people" are to be ordered by God’s rules. Such worship should show reverence, piety, love, desire, and joy in God, and it should be structured and ordered according to God’s holy principles. Worship for the Christian should be an expression of God’s heart back to God filtered through his congregation. We ought to reflect back to God how wonderful and most blessed He is in pure and undefiled worship. Mr. Forbes demonstrates from 1 Timothy 6:13-16 that it is impossible to worship God by human invention. It is equally impossible to worship God by human ingenuity. And, it is impossible to worship God in an atmosphere that has not been structured and ordered by God and His word. The Regulative Principle expresses clearly that God alone determines the manner sinners are to approach him in worship. Such a doctrine, such a concept, should not be placed by the way side because we and our contemporary culture are more fascinated and captivated by being entertained rather than by God’s truth. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

The Whole Duty Of Divine Meditation written by Richard Allestree and has been published by Puritan Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-07 with Religion categories.

Richard Allestree says, “meditation is a serious and solemn considering of heavenly things in the word of God, to the end that Christians may understand how much of God’s word concerns them, and that their hearts may be raised to holy passion and resolution to do what it says every day they live here on earth.” Godly meditation is part of the three legs to the stool of a Christian’s spiritual devotions. Spiritual devotions, or the three spiritual disciplines comprise Bible reading, prayer and pondering the word of God, or what we call godly meditation. This meditation is the musing and mental study of heavenly truths. It is working the practical truths of the Bible into one’s soul. In this, Christians are captivated with God’s disclosure of heavenly truths to them in the bible. In the bible God displays himself to them. God is the infinite First-being, worthy of all love for Himself, and communicates that love to His people. They in turn love him back. Loving him back includes thinking about him. Though Christians live in the world, they have communion with the God of heaven through the word of God, throughout the whole course of their lives. They do this through godly meditation. Allestree not only shows what meditation is, and how it is to be done, but gives the reader twenty-eight meditations so that he can enter into a profitable time of daily meditation by practical example. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.
