Gods Priests Men written by Aylward M. Lloyd and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-12 with History categories.

First Published in 1998. This volume brings together for the first time in a single volume the highly significant works on ancient Egyptian religion by Aylward Manley Blackman (1883-1956). Blackman's knowledge of Egyptian religion was unrivalled. He was best known for his series of studies on Egyptian religion which have long been regarded as essential reading in the subject, and which forms the content of the present collection. Unusually, Blackman did not publish his writings in book form, but preferred to place them in a wide range of publications that are extremely difficult to obtain. Blackman's studies on Egyptian religious belief and particularly religious practice focus on areas of fundamental concern and are models of meticulous, sympathetic and penetrating scholarship. They should remain required reading for all students of Egyptian religion well into the next century. All those with an interest in the subject should welcome this volume which makes Blackman's writings accessible in a convenient form. A select bibliography provides an update and key to more recent work on topics discussed by Blackman.

"Holy Men of God is a history of the kings, priests, and monks of Eastern Orthodoxy, an intriguing subject especially for Western readers. It focuses on the violent and luxuriant worlds of Byzantium and medieval Russia, taking its readers from the Iconoclastic crisis, the last church fathers, the Bogomil heretics, the God-intoxicated Hesychasts, and the flowering of Russian saints under the Mongol yoke, to the quarrel between the Possessors and the Non-Possessors, the bizarre persecution of the Old Believers, the twilight of the Ottoman Empire, the spiritual classic The Way of a Pilgrim, and the death on a Greek peninsula of the solitary monk Silouan. Central to its plot are the quarrelsome figure Symeon the New Theologian and the final schism between the Eastern and Western churches in AD 1054. Throughout the book the quiet sanctity of the Eastern church is contrasted with the neurosis and sadism of the Russian and Byzantine monarchs. This interplay helps the reader better appreciate the strength and resilience of a church that has been repeatedly exposed to chaos and catastrophe up to the present day"--

Too precious is the blood of the Lamb Jesus that was slain to be trodden under the foot. And men shall not be allowed to do respite to the Spirit of grace by whom we are sealed unto salvation. The church must fulfill her purpose and ordained destiny. The church is permitted to remain in the world for an end that is, to be the light bearer to those who are in the darkness of unbelief through ignorance. However, the activities and stench of wolves in sheep clothing styling themselves as shepherds in the house of our God has reached the highest heavens. Judgment is about to begin and that must be from the very threshold of the house of God. The Church was designed and created to be light bearers to the world. But, the church herself needed light due to the decadence that has set in because of her adultery with the world. Her (the church) inter-meddling with the world has eclipsed the original glory of God. The prophets within her wall prophesy for bread and divine for silver and for gold. Her doctrines are dubbed with untempered mortar and her gospel has been watered down and as such, lacks the inherent power, grace, and life to transform depraved men into the likeness of their master Jesus, which was the original design and purpose of the gospel. In addition, the quest for economic paradise here and now, has veiled the glory of the world to come, in the heart of men. We can no longer distinguish between the clean and the unclean, the saved and the unsaved, the church and the world. Truth, which is the hub of Christianity, has fallen at the gate, and those that seek after godliness and His righteousness has made themselves a prey amongst the sons of men.

The Priest Is Not His Own written by Fulton J. Sheen and has been published by Ravenio Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Religion categories.

Most books on the priesthood may be grouped into three categories: theological, pastoral and sociological. The theological treatises emphasize the priest as the minister and ambassador of Christ; the pastoral writings are concerned with the priest in the pulpit, the priest in the confessional, the priest at prayer, etc. The sociological writings, which are the latest type, refrain almost entirely from the spiritual and are concerned with the statistical study of the reaction of the faithful, the unbelievers and the general public to the priest. Is there room for another category? Such a possibility presented itself in writing our Life of Christ. In that book, we tried to show that, unlike anyone else, Our Lord came on earth not to live but to die. Death for our Redemption was the goal of His sojourn here, the gold that He was seeking. Every parable, every incident in His life—even the call of the Apostles, the temptation, the Transfiguration, the long conversation with the woman at the well—was focused upon that salutary death. He was, therefore, not primarily a teacher, but a Savior. The dark days in which that Life of Christ was written were hours when ink and gall did mix to reveal the mystery of the Crucifix. More and more that vision of Christ as Savior began to illumine the priesthood, and out of it came the thoughts in this book. To save anyone from reading it through, we here state briefly the thesis. We who have received the Sacrament of Orders call ourselves “priests”. The author does not recall any priest ever having said, “I was ordained a ‘victim’ ”, nor did he ever say, “I am studying to be a victim.” That seemed almost alien to being a priest. The seminary always told us to be “good” priests; never were we told to be willing victims. And yet was not Christ, the Priest, a Victim? Did He not come to die? He did not offer a lamb, a bullock or doves; He never offered anything except Himself. He gave Himself up on our behalf, a sacrifice breathing out fragrance as He offered it to God. (Ephesians 5:2) Pagan priests, Old Testament priests, medicine men, all offered a sacrifice apart from themselves. But not Our Lord. He was Sacerdos-Victima. This being so, just as we miss much in the life of Christ by not showing that the shadow of the Cross cast itself even over the crib and the carpenter shop as well as over His public life, so we have a mutilated concept of our priesthood if we envisage it apart from making ourselves victims in the prolongation of His Incarnation. There is nothing else in this book but that idea. And if the reader would like to hear that chord struck a hundred times, he may now proceed.
